HALOT for $120. Has it ever sold for cheaper?
I do think HAL is right on target with his post. As I looked through the deals all I could think was "Whose Wish Lists are they looking at? Is this seriously what's on people's wish lists?" Thanks, HAL, for helping me get a grip on reality!
You, sir, are more than welcomed! Besides Unix, I can't think of anybody else who would be obsessed with putting Baker's NT Commentary by W. Hendricksen and S. Kistemaker on their wish list...LOL...and it's like Tyndale commentaries go on sale every time and they never reach the 3rd party low prices, so who are we trying to kid around here...LOL...but you know something, it's all good. I get what I want, whenever I want it at a usual 25% off most of the time (Better than Black Friday) and all I have to do is call my sales rep. I just wish the advertisement wasn't so misleading and people wouldn't fall for it EVERY TIME! LOL
Blessings!
DAL
Ps. BTW, it was Logos's own wishlist of items they wish they sold more...LOL [;)]
So let's be thankful for what we do have and may receive and do the best to keep a positive attitude even if you didn't get the sweet deal you were looking forward to.
I am thankful I already have most of the sale items. I also have more things I'd like to buy than I have funds for. So, I grin like the Cheshire cat.
I also have more things I'd like to buy than I have funds for.
I think many of us are familiar with that.

I had to remind myself what that looked like -
Just my .02 for those from Logos that might read this: I am disappointed in the offerings. It seems that most of them are 1. lower on the academic side 2. suspiciously on the "not very popular" side 3. not very deeply discounted (compared to what one might expect on the the biggest shopping/deal day and compared to previous sales. I must say a blanket discount code would have been more appreciated, or a buy this get this free thing, or something else. As it is, I don't see much incentive to purchase anything; and I had planned on spending a chunk of my Christmas early.
I believe that Talmud is a great bargain with a price that i think closely equals the pre pub price. I haven;t got my email back to tell me what is in the hidden sales which is where the bigger savings might be.
-Dan
I should amend my thoughts a bit. The hidden sales have produced some interesting sales. Not overwhelming, but interesting.
Very disappointed. I haven't seen the hidden sales yet, but looking at the published deals I think it would have probably been better for public relations to have announced last month that there wasn't going to be a BF sale this year. I was planning to spend a significant amount, but I doubt I'll buy anything now. Are they holding out for a Christmas sale?
Why don't they make a bunch of the public domain works say 50 percent off? at 50 percent off it is still pure profit. They don't give royalTy checks to other publishers.
I'm normally pretty acidic with my humor; we keep a penciled-in set of markings in the garage of holier-than-thou (hole-ier than thou?) levels of the folks we know. Of course we make sure we're right at the top, and so far no one's close.
But goodness, this thread is interesting. The customers lined up outside the Logos internet site, and ran inside to get their goodies! Boy were they disappointed! DAL was outside laughing up a storm.
But for me, 'the sale' worked out great. I did make a wish-list, but then I bought me wish-list. Then I checked off the Logos BF sale; whew, nothing to buy! Then I happily got my new iPad Mini (actually new to me; refurb'd by Apple). Which, I might add, will be used to read Logos books!
Thank you Logos!! Woohoo!!

Same here, I bought iPad Air instead. Great deal.
Now I'm looking a leather case (thin) for my iPad Air .. anyone have suggestion?
Same for me. First, I found there's no such thing as a leather case (or more accurately, they're very hard to find; most are PW leather).
But I also wanted 'super-slim' and automatic close/sleep: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D8KPW1Q/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
My mini's already been shipped; I can't believe it. Probably the box has turkey grease and pieces of stuffing on it!
well...
there are leather cases.. but I couldn't afford it. lol

This would be my dream case .. lol

Vaja made the best case I've seen in the internet.
They do. It's called "Community Pricing" https://www.logos.com/products/search?Status=Community+Pricing. You should try it sometime.

Go to the dollar store and buy a box of Ziplock bags. [:D]
Anyone know what titles are on the "Secret" sale?
I bought iPad Air instead
Me too... was waiting to see what was on sale.....but nothing looked enticing enough.
Just picked up Geisler's Systematic Theology. The price I paid was less than what was on the sales page. Not sure if that's anyone else's experience. (BTW, nothing on my wishlist made it to the Sale list).
Edit: Actually I looked again, and there was an item on my wishlist that was offered (NT Wright collection - I already had all but 15 of those 34 volumes). I also bought it.
I upgraded my Verbum Capstone collection. I got 61 volumes for $98. That is the kind of deals they should have more of for Black Friday.
I had just recently added the Early Church Fathers to my wishlist. $50 off is not bad; more, of course, would have been better!
I want the Early Church Fathers Protestant Edition (37 volumes) also. If Logos had knocked off $100 instead of just $50 I probably would have jumped on that deal.
Everyone interested in the ECF should at least check their price for Verbum Basic+ at https://www.logos.com/catholic#compare (make sure you're logged in). Depending on what you already own, it might be lower than buying the ECF alone, and you'd get many other resources as well.
Then, if you're still interested, go to Black Friday Special! Introductory Pricing for Verbum Plus Libraries, where you'll find an additional 15% off coupon code.
Bible Speaks Today for $59.95 was both a surprise (!), and a blessing for me! Snagged it right away, already downloaded, indexed, and skimming.... wonderful!
I agree that's disappointing for a Black Friday. There's nothing that tempts me. Perhaps that's the downside of letting us choose the books, rather than someone at publisher relations negotiating with publishers to see what books they can offer at the deepest discount.
I agree Mark.... and the double edged sword of customer opinion swings in the opposite direction: "Let me pick what *I* want to be on sale!", or "Give us the best price you can negotiate with publishers!" Classic case of want to both eat the cake and have it too. On the bright side, I finally picked up Bible Speaks Today as one of the wish list sets that you recommended a few months ago. Thanks for the recommendation!

I prefer BookBook
BookBook ... I guess. It looks really guy-ish (and so therefore appropriate). I can't believe my mini is shipping out of Chechuan China and it'll be here Monday. In between Logos and Apple, life is amazing.
Call in you can get more discounts- just picked up NIV Application Series and Feasting on the Word- good discounts, and that's no baloney:)
These were on my wishlist, not on the sale.

I've seen cheaper
Really? When? I've never seen HALOT discounted, and my sales rep once said he'd never seen it discounted either.
So while the rest of you complain, I'm finding this the best Black Friday sale I've seen. I generally hate "vote-based" Logos sales, because people always vote for the same resources, and they're always more or less Evangelical. But for the first time in 4 years I'll actually buy something.[:)]
And the Verbum+ packages are great! I'll get several hundred dollars worth of books for about $50.[:)] Though I admit it bugs me that I bought Navarre and a dozen other included resources on prepub. I could have saved $5-600 more...[:(]

So happy about HALOT.
Just called CS to find out about the rest of the BF sales ... the prices were high still for me.
if I could remember they were:
Theological Lexicon of the Old Testament (3 vols.)
The Essential IVP Reference Collection Version 3
The IVP New Testament Commentary Series (IVPNTC) (20 vols.)
The hidden sales have produced some interesting sales.
How did you learn what they were? I emailed sales almost immediately, but I haven't heard back from them yet. Would really prefer not to have to call...
Donnie

Salami, ham, turkey?
And the Verbum+ packages are great! I'll get several hundred dollars worth of books for about $50. Though I admit it bugs me that I bought Navarre and a dozen other included resources on prepub. I could have saved $5-600 more...
how do you figure that out? How do you know that you've spent (on prepub) much more than you would have if you'd waited till now? I mean, how did you come up with the $5-600 extra by going after pre-pubs?
Capstone+ adds more than $400 worth of prepubs I didn't buy, and they now cost me $50.
It also includes at least $660 worth of prepubs I did, unfortunately, buy. I have a hard time believing they would have increased the price with more than $160. Probably more like $100.
The sales rep that answered the call wasn't very helpful IMO. After I told him I wasn't interested on the deals posted, I let him know I wanted to know what the secret deals were, because one of those might interest me. Well, to my surprise he said, "We have the IVP for $189.95 (if I heard correctly), we have the Preacher's Homiletic Commentary for $429.95 and Spurgeon's works;" for whatever he said. It looks like he thought he wasn't gonna make a sale so he rushed through and only mentioned 3 items that were over-priced IMO (Except IVP Commentaries since $100 off seems reasonable, assuming I heard the sale price correctly). Oh well, I'll wait 'til next sales to shop around for deals.
Call in you can get more discounts- just picked up NIV Application Series and Feasting on the Word- good discounts, and that's no baloney:) These were on my wishlist, not on the sale. Salami, ham, turkey?
Oh yeah, and what's a good discount on those two items you bought, if you don't mind me asking? Because if you got an X price we should be able to get that same X price if some of us decided we wanted to buy for the same discount you got. Or did they tell you: "But please, don't tell anybody you got this discount." Just curious, I'm sure you won't mind telling us.
Then I happily got my new iPad Mini
That's great Denise. Let us know how you like it. I'm sure you will be pleased.
how does Tyndale Commentaries stand compared to IVP NT Commentaries ?
They're similar, but Tyndale is at a slightly deeper level, and written by UK authors, rather than US. It's a little older, but not dated. In terms of quality, I'd say Tyndale is often better than IVP NT. And, of course, Tyndale covers the whole Bible, and therefore offers much better value for money. I'd highly recommend Tyndale if you're looking for an intermediate level commentary from an evangelical perspective.
Carson says:
The IVP New Testament Commentaries (/IVP) are designed to fit into the fairly narrow slot between the TNTC and the BST—in other words, they are still commentaries, but they are brief, simple, and designed to be immediately nurturing. Quite a few have now appeared, and if several are bland, several others are outstanding (W. Larkin on Acts, I. Howard Marshall on 1 Peter, Linda Belleville on 2 Corinthians, Rodney Whitacre on John).
The Tyndale New Testament Commentaries are designed for the frequently-targeted well-read layperson, but many pastors profit as well. The series is conservative but focuses most attention on explaining the meaning of the text with minimal interaction with the voluminous secondary literature. Originally based on the AV/KJV, with Greek and Hebrew transliterated and explained, the series is being rewritten based on the RSV or NIV (at the individual author’s discretion), and space is being assigned more equitably. Several of the volumes of this new edition are, within the constraints of the series, outstanding (e.g., Marshall on Acts)
Bruce ... I got the 64g white cellular. Absent Apple, it wasn't affordable. I can't believe he landed in Phoenix just an hour ago. Obviously the FedEx truck will be struggling for almost 4 days up the Black Canyon (or sitting in the FedEx warehouse so it won't look like overnight deliver for free!).
While I would have loved to see more items in sale I am very happy and grateful that I saved some money in a few resources I have been waiting to buy and was hoping they would be on sale.
I disagree with Mike. The savings ranges from 15% to 50%. The Bible Speak Today has a 40% off from regular price. It all depends of what you were looking for. But what shocks me is how ungrateful we can be and right after thanksgiving day!
What happens with rejoice always? What happened to in everything give thanks?
Some complaint that some of the books have been in sale before. Please remember that we, the customer decided the book. They looked at our collective wish lists and chose the most popular items.
So I am thankful that Logos made some of the books I have been waiting for more affordable for me.
I got the 64g white cellular.
So I am thankful
Yes, so am I.
Has anyone heard what the special deals are? I mailed Logos Thursday morning and still havent heard anything.
below:
IVP New Testament Commentary (20 vols): $189.95
Essential IVP Reference Collection Version: $99.95
Preacher’s Homiletic Commentary: $428.95
Life Application Bible Commentary: $149.95
Spurgeon Collection (149 vols): $399.95
Theological Lexicon of the New Testament: $51.95
Thanks for posting these Andre!
hmm... IVP reference is a great deal! Looks like the normal coupon code for other black friday deals doesn't work though..

Thanks Mark,
I have both BST & Tyndale Commentary, I didn't know if buying IVP NT would benefit at all. I guess not..
Thanks! I won't buy it.

Hi Liam. Once your e-mail arrives, it will have instructions on how to get this for this price. I just send you the list so that you know the options your have and can make a decision about what to spend your money on during this sale. Sorry for not getting the e-mail from Logos. They usually will grant you the sale price even after the sales period if they failed to respond to your request in time.
