Anderson - Forbes Morphology

Just learned that OGOS has changed the Reverse Interlinear link to Andersen-Forbes and replaced it with the LOGOS Morphology. At one time in my life I was a project manager for a large computer program that had a huge database and I understand many of the reasons that they told me was the reason. maybe the the folks at LOGOS had informed those signed up for academic pricing and/or academic messages that this change was going to take place, but I did not see the announcement. Additionally, i wish that some of the robustness that previously been available (divine names, places, definite nouns, etc. in the noun search criteria and other concepts) where still available. So, a change to my lesson plans are in order and they will be made. That said, I have constantly been recommending that the students purchase the "Learning Biblical Hebrew and Greek" video series. Of course, those videos are somewhat limited in value now ... so I was surprised to see them still being listed as available (on backorder however).

So, two questions: !) any suggestions on how to rapidly migrate from Andersen-Forbes morphology (especially all of my visual filters previous built) for re-building my lessons, 2) Is there a quick tutorial on the LOGOS Morphology scheme. Recognizing I'm not answering your question (s), but too bad we can't hide the RI with AF morph-tags over on the side! (Or a second version?). I think they're trying to cut their royalty costs.

I want to echo this request as I am just working through the videos again and it is frustrating that the visual filters no longer work as described and that it is not clear how to recreate them using the Logos Morphology. The Logos Morphology seems quite limited to me in comparison to the Andersen-Forbes and right now I feel like in moving to Logos 5 I have lost a useful feature from Logos 4 and have wasted money in buying a video set to learn to use that feature.

Is the Andersen-Forbes morphology definitely no longer available or have I missed something?

Could someone from Logos please respond.

The Andersen-Forbes morphology is still available in the AFAT resource, but it isn't in the reverse interlinears anymore.

We are re-shooting the Learn to Use videos for Logos 5 with the LHB.

When we look at all the disparate data projects we have going on (things you know about, like the Bible Sense Lexicon and the Discourse Hebrew Bible, as well as things you haven't heard about), it became pretty obvious that we needed our own text to hang all this data on. Having all these things linked to one text is going to open up a lot of doors for powerful searching in the future.

But it's not all future benefits. There are some cool things that are in the LHB-based tools today that weren't in the AF-based tools, including accentuation on the surface text, vowel pointings on the lexical forms, root analysis, hybrid Kethiv-Qere forms and verb stems that more closely align with the analysis of unabridged lexicons like HALOT and BDB as well as some of the intermediate-advanced reference grammars. Of course the AF analysis has a lot to offer that isn't in LHB as well - there are certainly trade-offs in terms of specific features tagged. Though we are already in the process of adding a few more morph features into LHB - it will continue to improve.

As I have discovered, there seem to be examples using Andersen-Forbes that I cannot recreate using the Logos Morphology.

Playing around with Bible/Morphological searches with AFAT using the verses view to also display the NASB I can at least get some of the data but it is frustrating that I can no longer use the visual filters that I created when I first watched the videos plus I cannot create any new ones using the same technniques.

I appreciate that I may have missed something but right now as far a I can see comparing the Logos Morphology to Andersen-Forbes is like comparing a Mini to a Rolls Royce. It really does feel like a key capability of Logos 4 has taken a massive step in the wrong direction with Logos 5.

Concur with using the Andersen-Forbes visual filters in the Search and then show the associated ESB (in my case) seems to get to some of the functionality previously available. well back to re-writing my lesson plans.

I really hope the current owners of the L4 version of Learn to use Greek and Hebrew videos get a free upgrade, especially since the ones I have must be older versions, the ones which the Greek CD's get stuck at certain points, and the audio does not quite line up with the video...I just didn't bother contacting sales about it...my own fault...then time goes by, and I feel it's a bit late to ask for a refund (in all fairness to Logos)...but I wold love an updated version that I could finally use! Without falking out more moolah! Please make this Aussie happy. I upgraded to L5 like a good boy...lol! And, I did have plans for AYB this year!!!

You should be able to download some updated files from your account.

If you are a Windows user, try the free VLC Media Player as this was recommended and reliably plays back the files for me.

due to this issue, I couldn't follow the instruction on Visual Filter recommended in the "learn biblical language" video.

Ex: video says.. create Visual Filter > Morph > All Passages > ESV > Anderson Forbes Hebrew

then inside the search box it is instructed to choose: Noun > Common > Definite with "ה"

BUT.......... I couldn't do that anymore .. nothing happens when I try to do that.

The only option I get is Logos Hebrew Morphology instead of the Anderson Forbes.

But when I use Logos Hebrew Morphology, I couldn't choose the "DEFINITENESS WITH "ה" "

is there a solution on this problem?

1. The result is somewhat slightly different with you method.

ex: on the screenshot you gave in Job 1:6, the word "God" is highlighted, but in the video isn't.

also "the earth" on Job 1:8 is highlighted on yours but not on the video.

2. Also I couldn't redo these steps, can anyone help?

Mike ... I recently revisited determining definite nouns using the visual filter criteria you supplied. While it captured the majority, I found at least one verse when it does not seem to work, specifically Job 1:7b where the second satan which has a definite article of "ha" is not highlighted. However, if I increase the number of characters to three it is captured. Any ideas on what is happening?

hi everybody

can somebody from logos given update on the learning Hebrew and Greek video DVDs

I purchased these when they first came out, due to finishing other studies I left them on one side, to be used in the future, now I'm in a position to start using the learning Hebrew and Greek video DVDs, as I am a complete novice in this area and will be relying totally on the teaching

I am using logos version 5, it seems you probably will release a new logos version 6 will we ever get these teaching videos up-to-date before the next version comes out? Should I start using them now with logos 5, appreciated if anybody could advise me , as a complete novice will I come unstuck with the training material in Lagos 5?

there is another video training resource word study will this have the same problems not been compatible with the training using logos 5 as I'm hoping to purchase this in the future
