I plan to upgrade to a MacBook, and I am thinking of going for the Retina version.
My real question is whether there would be any value going for an i7 over an i5 processor?
Yes!
also don't forget to get more than 8gb ram with an i7.. (don't upgrade from Apple directly, buy the ram yourself, cheaper)
Logos' indexing is a killer these days..
Thanks Mike,
Wondering about your comment on needing more than 8gb ram with an i7 - what's the rationale?
For the record: I'm thinking of Retina MB, 13", i7, 16gb ram - and maybe even the 1Tb SSD (thought the cost is a bit ouch).
Logos is my heaviest consumer of resources.
Mac model benchmarks => http://browser.primatelabs.com/mac-benchmarks shows i7 is typically faster than i5.
Noticed MacBook Pro late 2013 model with Retina display has RAM surface mounted to motherboard, which cannot be upgraded => http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Retina+Display+Late+2013+Teardown/18696
By the way, Apple offers refurbished Mac models => http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/macbook_pro (availability does vary)
Keep Smiling [:)]
David you pick the 2014 MBP Retina 13", i7, 16gb, and 1tb ssd the cost would be $2,699.00 but the i7 would be a dual core.
The below is a 2012 but it would give you a Quad core instead of a dual core i7, and a 15.4 retina, with 768GB SSD.also it has a GPU. with 1 GB video memory.
