Collection Rule for an author that would include book and journal articles

I'm trying to figure out how to write a Collection Rule in Logos 5 that would include all the works of a particular author including any journal articles he may have written. Someone posted that "heading" can be used to search individual article titles within the journals... but that doesn't seem to work for the author of those articles.

I know I can do a simple search of all my journals to find an author's name... but I'd like to put this into a rule for a Collection.

Any ideas?

There is no way to include individual journal articles in a collection. The quickest workaround would be to tag each issue with the names of the contributing writers and then include the relevant tag in the collection rule. So if Biblical Studies Journal had articles written by Fred, Jim & Bill add tags to it, Fred, Jim & Bill. Then when you build collection rule for material written by Bill you rule would be author:Bill AND mytag:Bill A more effort solution would be to build a PBB index of all articles written by a specific author and include the index in your collection.

Thanks for the reply. Now I can stop looking for a feature that isn't there. Too bad Logos doesn't tag individual authors of Journal Articles.

It seems like the PBB index and a mytag list would both be static in nature. Am I correct in this? I'm looking for a dynamic way of getting this done. Maybe Logos 6???

They do, at least for some journals. I don't think they've tagged them all, though. But it's a start anyway. Here's how you'd search for them:

Results in my Library show that it's not very likely they've tagged many of the journals, since John is such a common first name I would expect more hits:

Anyway, this can't be turned into a collection, since it isn't a filter that would work in the Library or the Collections tab. But you could search some other way for the author of interest in all your Journals, and then drag all the found articles into a Favorites folder you make up for that author. It's not dynamic, but again it's a start. I've begun creating Favorites folders for all the faculty at my seminary. It's frustrating because they are not complete, and won't update if I acquire more works by them, but it's better to have some quick access to articles by them than not any at all.

Most of the journals available in Logos format were created by a third party, but for the past two years, Logos has done the work in house. It it doubtful that such an extensive modification will be undertaken for those third-party resources (probably won't happen for Logos-created one either).

One option depends on Journal description; may be able to filter metadata description for author: e.g.

Type:Journal AND "Robert Caldwell"

This seems to work in the Search window. I don't show the "Article Author" search field... but choosing "Author" seems to work ok.
