Text-to-speech option for Android App
It would be great to have text-to-speech option in Logos Android App.
I love listen to my ebooks using Moon+ Reader Pro that has this option. It will make Logos App even more attractive.

I agree. Android's text to speech is pretty good and lots of other apps use it. That would be excellent

That would make sure I buy more books as Logos, not Kindle. I love that the Kindle reads outloud, so I borrow my wife's e-reader. This would be a huge advantage over other readers and other bible apps! Please put it on the planned upgrade path.

totally agree with the need for this. It would make logos on the android much more functional and I would buy more logos than kindle books!

I also agree. Google's TTS ability would be appreciated.

Yeah, this would be so helpful!!!

The Tecarta Bible in the Amazon App Store uses Android Text to Speech either for entire chapters or just for selected verses.
Hopefully, Logos will duplicate this soon.

I would also really like to see this feature in an update. Please make a priority of this feature.

One thing to keep in mind is that Logos resources aren't clean little plain text sentences that can be easily fed to Android's Text To Speech engine. A Logos resource is made up of rich text that provides all sorts of extra information that is parsed and displayed by our custom rendering engine. As a small example, here is some of the rich text used to display the verse preview on the settings screen of our apps:
[quote]
<Paragraph xmlns=\"\" Language=\"en-US\" FontSize=\"12\" FlowDirection=\"LeftToRight\" TextAlignment=\"Left\" Margin=\"0,0,0,0\" TextIndent=\"12\">
<Run FontBold=\"True\" FontVariant=\"Superscript\" Text=\"35 \"/>
<Field Fields=\"bible\"><Run Text=\"Jesus said to them, \" /></Field>
<ResourcePopupLink ResourceId=\"LLS:1.0.710\" Position=\"XREF.JN6.35.X\" IsSidebar=\"False\">
<Field Fields=\"crossref\"><Run FontItalic=\"True\" FontVariant=\"Superscript\" Text=\"x\" FontColor=\"FFFF0000\" /></Field>
</ResourcePopupLink>
<Field Fields=\"bible\" ><Run Text=\"“I am the bread of life; \" FontColor=\"FFFF0000\" /></Field>
<ResourcePopupLink ResourceId=\"LLS:1.0.710\" Position=\"XREF.JN6.35.Y\" IsSidebar=\"False\">
<Field Fields=\"crossref\"><Run FontItalic=\"True\" FontVariant=\"Superscript\" Text=\"y\" FontColor=\"FFFF0000\"/></Field>
</ResourcePopupLink>
<Field Fields=\"bible\">
<Run Text=\"whoever comes to me shall not hunger and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.\" FontColor=\"FFFF0000\"/>
</Field>
<Field Fields=\"bible\"><Run Text=\" \"/></Field>
<Run FontBold=\"True\" FontVariant=\"Superscript\" Text=\"36 \"/>
<Field Fields=\"bible\"><Run Text=\"But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe.\" FontColor=\"FFFF0000\" /></Field>
</Paragraph>
As you can imagine, just providing the TTS engine with that data would not result in a very pleasant reading experience. [:)] I'm not saying it will never happen, but right now this isn't planned or a priority.

I realise its not planned, however, you appear to have it covered already in the initial design (for english text resources anyhow) specification, so might not be that painful..
Seems like you might be able to alter the display module to TTS the contents of <RunText> at same time you render the display if "read aloud" boolean is flagged, that should also keep the text and display in sync.
I do concede however, on the grand scheme of things its very low on the priority list

Drew, you must have already solved that problem because it works so well on mac and ipad? I love listening on my ipad! Would be great to have on my android phone too... I know it all takes time though and we appreciate all the hard work that goes into making logos great.
cheers

Sorry for any unclarity, I wasn't trying to say it was impossible, just that it wasn't as straightforward as it would be if our resources were plain text, and mentioning that it wasn't an extremely high priority.

John, are you referring to the audio LEB New Testament? That actually works on Android as well already and is different than the Text to Speech referred to here. That feature uses actual pre-recorded audio tracks whereas what's described here would have the Android system "read" you the text.

No I was referring to how well Logos works with the ipads accessibility feature. If you have an ipad to try it on then turn on 'voice over' in settings (mine is set to a triple click of the home key) and swipe down with two fingers. Your logos book will be read to you and the pages keep turning. About once in 30 pages it skips ahead with the audio but the page is the correct one so a quick swipe down gets it back on track.
Cheers,
John

A quick compare with my friends ipad seems to suggest it is very recent or ios 7 dependent.

There is a read aloud feature on the desktop version. If TTS is not the way to go, then we would like to get the read aloud feature on the android app.

I would really appreciate this feature too.0

I would love to have Android Logos TTS option. I am having to purchase my books through another service because I have Dyslexia and need my books read to me.
Please add TTS so I can purchase more books via Logos.

Though I'm not convinced that Logos needs a TTS option, I would love to see the groundwork laid down so that future non-Logos TTS options could integrate with our libraries. A wonderful world indeed!

I would also love this feature so I could listen to my Logos books in my car or when at work inspecting buildings. The read aloud works well with my computer; why not with my phone?

Seems like you might be able to alter the display module to TTS the contents of <RunText> at same time you render the display if "read aloud" boolean is flagged, that should also keep the text and display in sync.
Understanding that the resource files are not simple text files, how different is the method for rendering display text from what is required to pass text through to the TTS process?

I drive from city to city for work and it's one of the rare times I can just put something on to listen to. Being able to start my Android reading aloud a book from my Logos library would be invaluable.
