Is there any way to determine distinctive vocabulary (for example Greek words unique to a specific book or specific books)?
The power of Word Lists, but you have to start with an extensive Vocabulary (e.g. whole NT) and then build vocabularies for each book(s) of interest. Words that are unique can be determined by Merging two lists on Differences.
How do I add all the lemma of the NT?
Is there convenient reference for the entire NT?
In the Word List entry box specify "Matthew-Revelation" - please be aware this is going to take some time!
Perfect - Thank you!
Hi Graham,
Using the reference "Matthew-Revelation" for NA27 caused the program "thinking" icon to show for a while, but no list was ultimately generated.
However, "Matthew-John" generated a list. Is there a list size limit or some other restriction preventing "Matthew-Revelation" from working?
My attempt resulted in a crash! So Generate Act - Rev and combine the lists via Merge.
BTW if you want to compare the vocabulary of John with the rest of the NT, you have to construct a list for Matt - Luke, Acts - Rev and compare the two.
You can compare (Difference) John to the other gospels, thus finding what is unique to John, and run a search on some interesting words to see if they occur in other parts of the NT!
With what you found here and Dave's getting a crash there may be some limit - maybe around memory size.
It worked ok when I tried it on my computer - although I am running the beta software.
I don't know whether Dave tried it on the stable release or the beta or - indeed - whether that makes any difference!
But Dave has given you some good suggestions as to how to get round any limitation
Greek words unique to a specific book
There's a list of Hapax Legomena here, ordered alphabetically and by book. There's also a visual filter available here (you have to join the group first).
It crashed on stable and now gives an error message:-
Exception Exception 0x80030070: There is insufficient disk space to complete operation.
But Matt - Rev succeeds on the beta on the same computer / drive.
Thank you everyone - I was able to run the operation in smaller chunks (ie. Gospels & then the rest of the NT).
