Put L3's 'Dictionary Lookup from the taskbar' function into L4

Surely I am not the only one who misses the 'Dictionary Lookup launched from the taskbar' feature of Logos 3. It was great to have a standard dictionary like Webster's right on the taskbar, so whenever I came across an unfamiliar word in any context (different programs, websites, etc) I could immediately look it up (and I could choose to use more specialized dictionaries as well). Why should Logos 4 "downgrade" this useful feature?

Just a different approach. If you Prioritize Webster's as your main dictionary you can type lookup <word> in the Command box and have your definition eg lookup disaster. Or you can create a custom Bible Word Study guide with just a Definition section and constrain that to look in one of your collections.

As one who still uses L3 often, this is a feature in Logos 4 that is easier then in the old version. Dave's answers are good, and just to add to that, when I'm in a reading mode and want to better understand a word I come across I right click on it, and select from the pop-up.

I clicked on Merriam Webster's after right clicking on human which then brought me into that resource. I try to keep a dictionary, highlighting, and Bibles in a panel to the left of my reading resource... there are too many way to describe them all.

That's a lot better I think then L3. I took some time today to more familiarize myself with L4, and I really appreciated all the "valuable" information both here and on the many video's both at Logos, and forum member's private pages. Although the old Newsgroups were easier to view information, there is nothing better than a good visual! Haven't gotten into sound, one could go on about that too.

This thread is quite old, but I want to echo Peter's idea. I know it is easy to use Dictionaries in Logos 4/5, but I also sorely miss the little dictionary lookup icon in the taskbar. It was brilliant. The solutions above are limited to Logos only. While working in a Word processor or browsing an internet site, I could simply click on this little icon and find any word in multiple languages, and even quickly scroll through different dictionaries with a click of a button.

Please, Logos bring back this little feature. [Y]

I made extensive use of it, and I really feel it is a tool that enhances the usability of Logos.

It's even easier than that with Logos 4/5. Inside a resource, I just double click a word and it pops up in my favorite dictionary (Webster, Oxford, etc.). If it's not a word I am looking at in a resource, as Dave said I just type "Lookup <word>" in the box at the top. What could be easier?

The advantage of the taskbar tool is that you can quickly find words in programs OUTSIDE Logos. That is why I want the little tool back. Switching between Logos and another application just to get a quick word definition or synonym is not as quick. I really hope Logos would consider this. Anyone who ever used that little tool extensively will know why I want it back so desperately. [:D]

So this explains why Logos iOS seems like a good replacement for Libby. iOS has the dictionary! Actually I use the PageWhite one too quite a bit.

But to confirm the OP's point, I can't remember just how often a malay word eludes me.

Not sure if I understand correctly, but I am using Logos 5. I just picked up a previous discussion that started before Logos 5 was available. This feature should be part of Logos 5 also.

I have to assume you are on Logos 4 when you respond in this (Logos 4) forum! Any enhancements will be in Logos 5 as Logos 4 is only maintained to ensure sync'ing with Logos 5 and supporting current resources.
