Problem with Visual Filters

I have some students who have asked me for some help in creating Visual Filters. In looking at their screen images they have sent me, it appears to me that they are building the Visual Filter correctly.

When they click the 3 circle figure, to make certain that their Visual Filter is checked, the category of Visual Filter does not even appear.

I attempted to create their filter, and my text was highlighted immediately.

I think I remember something from a while back that when a library has recently been updated, the Visual Filters do not show up until the library is finished indexing.

I planned to e-mail my student to make certain their system was indexed. The student in question is using a MacBook, but there is no Logos icon in the Menu Bar (upper right hand screen). On my MacBook, when it is (re)indexing after an upgrade, I always see a Logos icon there until it has finished indexing. I don't see that on my student's screen shot.

Any ideas?

This looks very strange.

As you point out the screenshot looks fine and this should work.

It looks as though the Visual Filter is not being "registered" - whatever that means!

A couple of questions:

What version of Logos 5 is your student using?
If they try a search for those terms, do they get the results they would expect?

They should have Logos 5 Bronze, plus the NIV 2011. This is a required purchase for them for a course in hermeneutics, and they have an assignment due tomorrow. I´m not the instructor of the course, so I really don´t know exactly what they are looking for.

In another graphic the one student sent me, he was attempting to highlight 2 specific words in a pericope of the Sermon of the Mount. I replicated that in a minute or two, and exported a highlighted passage list over that pericope.

I´ll try to follow up with him today. I e-mailed to ask him what version his system shows, indicating that if it does not say "Logos Bible Software 5.2 SR-4 (5.2.0.0110)" then it certainly needs an update.

His screen image did not include the "Dock" so it may be possible that he has a Logos icon down there with an update ready to install. But still, if the library had been fully indexed previously (before the application of a new update), I think the Visual Filters should be working.

I'll try to get more info on the problem and report back.

True - but the Visual Filter usage being discussed here should work with just the free engine and the required Bible.

Depends on Logos 4 Mac version. Seem to remember an older Logos 4 Mac version (or two) needing manual application update.

I haven't heard back from the student, but . . .

I went to his Active Monitor, and saw the Logos Indexer still running, even though there was no icon anywhere.

I used "Force Quit" on his Logos Indexer, then quit the Logos program. When we restarted Logos, it began indexing.

I am fairly certain that the Visual Filters should be working now. I'll report back when I hear for sure tomorrow.

Logos Support has => https://www.logos.com/support/logos5/mac/problem that includes Logos Logging Utility for Mac so can enable Logos diagnostic logging.

Thanks for your help, guys. After I used the "Active Monitor" to force stop the indexer, and started Logos 5 up again, it began indexing. When finished, the Visual Filters worked fine.

I appreciate the link taylored to Logos Support for Mac. I got my MacBook in August. I frequently help students with "things Logos," and having both Windows and Mac has helped me be more useful.
