Video: Preparing a sermon with Logos 4

A number of people asked to see the process involved in preparing a sermon. I'm attempting to do this in a series of shortish videos. This is a work in progress – the sermon isn’t finished yet! But the first video is ready. It covers first steps, and gets me to my finished layout. If you're comfortable with layouts you can skip it, as my layout is fairly similar to John Fidel's. Other videos to follow as the sermon progresses!

I am amazed at how much i learn from these videos. One question Mark, how did you get the multiple collections in your Cited By window? As far as i am able to work it, i can only display one collection at a time. Can you explain?

This video was prepared by Mark Barnes, a pastor who is completing a Ph.D in the UK. I met him online in the Logos Forum.

I had asked him if he would produce for all of us Logos Forum bloggers
a series of videos walking us through his process of preparing for a
sermon--starting from one specific Bible text and then demonstrating
how he would use all the toys in Logos4 (note taking, clippings,
powerpoint, SS handouts, bulletin inserts ) to produce a completed
polished sermon. And you know what...He was so gracious that he
complied!

This is the second in the series. It is quite impressive to watch. It
should give you an idea of how you can do you daily devotions and/or
prep for SS...especially if you have Logos4 Bible software. These
videos may even convince you of how easy it is to get into the Word
using Logos4 and maybe even prompting you to invest in this excellent software!
But call me first if you want to take the plunge... :P

a layout" is exactly that. It is the first video in the series showing how to set up the "layouts" he uses in the second and

I think that's a feature of the beta. It should be part of a Logos update coming in the next few weeks.

I was thinking to myself "why is he doing on paper what he could do in Logos?" and then you answered my question! You read minds and you had a very reasonable explanation. And the video, like all of yours, is fantastic. Thank you again. I'm going to be using notes and clippings and favorites more now. And I'm going to share this video (and the rest of the series once it's out) with others in my church who prepare sermons. Maybe I'll get some Logos converts thanks to you! :-)

I've been using a layout similar to the note taking layout that Mark featured in the video for two days now on a study of Revelation. Wow! The notes, the clippings, the favorites. Everything about that layout just really works well for the type of study I'm doing, particularly now that I have L4 moving along a little faster. Thanks again Mark.

You should be able to click the "Add" button and choose Collections. Then just choose the collection you want to be searched.
