this would be insta-buy for a lot of people.
If I could remember gyt.org website is one of the most visited church websites..
If they were to do this, wouldn't it be wiser if they'd wait until pastor John "retires?"
These 5 people haven't retired but have their sermon archive already .. so that's nice.
I saw Jimmy Evans on TV last month preaching on Real Sex.. I was sold afterward.
Skip Heitzig is a good preacher from Calvary Chapel, I hear him all the time on the radio.. his messages are always current & with very good illustrations + humor. I'm sold too.
bump
maybe Logos will consider this please?
ps:sorry I made a mistake on my first post, the correct address is www.gty.org
I would be interested in this as well.
The copyright section of the GTY website says that it is freely distributable in electronic form. That's awesome! That's all the encouragement I need to start work on a Logos Personal Book. I won't be creating it by hand, but will try and write a script that will download all the sermons from the GTY website and reformat them for a PB. I'll keep you all updated on progress.
Mark Barnes,
" I don't know who you are, I don't know what you want.. If you are looking for payment, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a blessings for people like you. If you make that PBB now, that'll be the beginning of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will beg you."

-Taken the movie
That would be awesome! Hope your script works!!! [Y]
If anyone would like to beta test this resource, send me an email via www.markbarnes.net - it would be good to iron out kinks in the script before release.
Size is going to be a big problem. There are 3,103 sermons on the website. I estimate that to be around 25 million words, which is surely too much for one personal book - but unfortunately you can't link from one personal book to another.
<edit>It's not too much for one personal book, and actually works very well.</edit>
Size is going to be a big problem
Not getting your link to work, but I would be willing to test it.
I'm down
Mark this sounds amazing! Thank you! However I can't find the link on your site... Is it still available or are you reformatting it to post later?
However I can't find the link on your site
I'm not intending to post a public link until I've ironed out the problems. The major issue at the moment is that Word mangles the internal hyperlinks, so I need to rewrite the code to use Logos' hyperlinks instead of Word's. I've worked out what I need to do to achieve that, but haven't had the time to implement it yet.
If you want to send me an email through my site, I'll send the file to you once it's ready for the next stage of testing.
hey mark, you can send me an email through " test@mailinator.com "

Mark I'm not sure how this script works, but it sounds incredibly useful! I have been trying to put Edwards' Miscellanies from the Jonathan Edwards Center site into several personal books and have spent hours doing it manually. There are about a thousand entries and each must be opened manually. Is there any chance you could explain how to do this?
Thanks again for the MacArthur stuff! I'm excited for it to become a reality! (I'll hold off on the testing and just wait till it's ready)
I wrote my own code to do this. It was code specific to Macarthur's site, and wouldn't be of much use elsewhere.
The general term for this type of thing is 'website scraping'. If you're not able to write your own code, programs like this make scraping easier, and may improve your workflow.
The copyright permissions at the Jonathan Edwards Center seem to make it acceptable to distribute as a free Logos PB, but I wouldn't want to do the first 26 volumes, as Logos is making them available for sale - and the later volumes are much harder to work with.
Thanks for the info here Mark! I already manually copied and pasted his Blank Bible and Notes on Scripture and manually inserted the Scripture tags to make it a commentary and don't want do any more of it.
Thanks for the software recommendation! Does anyone know of some software that will work for a total computer dummy on a mac?
Thanks again!

Abondservant, is there any chance you would be willing to post the docx of his miscellanies volumes (vols 13, 18, 20, 23) somewhere, or send it to me if I gave you my email? I searched and did find a couple pdfs of his miscellanies, but only some and not all of them.
If you're interested, I have his Blank Bible, Notes on Scripture, and all of the first 100 Miscellanies that are specifically about a particular verse organized as a commentary (and scripture tagged to follow my Bible) that I can post or send your way!
I don't have the rights to distribute it sorry!
OK bummer! I didn't know it was against the distribution rights since they post everything for free at their website. Thanks anyway!
yeah - at the top of my copy it says that its not allowed to be re-distributed in digital or print form.
Now on pre-pub:
https://www.logos.com/product/42581/john-macarthur-sermon-archive?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=prepub
thanks Logos for listening to suggestion.
btw, why only up to 2009?
Mark, now that this is on pre-pub does this mean that you will not be sharing what you have put together?
My beta version is functional, and is available on request, but I have decided not to release it fully, given this news. I have myself pre-ordered the official collection.
They've changed the year up to 2014 from 2009, but the number of sermons have not changed.
Is that a mistake?
The number of sermons has not changed. The archive does cover from 1969 to 2014.
Including the audio of the MacArthur sermon archive would make a BIG, HUGE difference and I'm sure would impact our lives all the more for when we think of sermons, is not "listening" the first thing that comes to mind? Can it be done? God bless you ALL!
