Compare Bible Versions Chart

I hate to ask a stupid question....or maybe not.

I'm looking at the "compare versions" chart after searching a passage. But I'm not sure how to interpret it. Is it showing which versions are more "literal?"

Then the chart on the right widens at times for certain versions on certain verses. Help?

Thank you for the quick reply. I wasn't as specific as I should have been.

I was referring to the graph inside of the passage guide. Multi-colors and such. And the locations of the dots for each version- and what the widening of the bars means.

Help will give a decent description. It should show your top prioritized Bibles but I don't know if there is a default if you've not prioritized your Bibles.

Daniel ... Logosland has two missing person reports outstanding.

One is for a person who knows what those charts 'mean' (from a user point of view), and there is a second report for a person who is known to actually use the charts.

Through the years, there's been several attempts at the XY graph including by the Logos CEO.

So from a technical point of view, your question can not be defined as 'stupid'.

I suspect you mean the cluster graph (Tools >> Passage analysis >> cluster graph). That graph gives you a quick visual of how different various versions are from one another based on word variation. For instance note in one case how the ESV and NIV are closer together but the ESV and NLT are really far apart? That means that the ESV and NIV share similar wording, but the NLT is much different than the ESV in the given passage.

IF however you mean the Version River (same tool, next button) it is a slightly finer glimpse of the same comparison on a verse by verse basis.

If you mean something other than what I'm talking about can you provide a screenshot?

I use them only very briefly. They are only meant to be "thought starters". Taking a look at a chart and seeing all of the versions I normally use are clustered except that one, I want to take a deeper look in text comparison at what is going on. Is it merely archaisms being updated? Or is there a textual issue that I need to investigate. That is basically all they are meant to be. Not in depth, but quickly starting your brain thinking.

Logos has many tools like that that are meant to Facilitate Serendipitous Discovery.
