Foreign Script Formatting for Personal Books

The word appears correctly in the search box, but no results are ever returned. Any suggestions?

If you attach a sample of your file (use paperclip icon), I'll see if I can spot your problem since the search worked for me. Did you try a Bible or a Basic search?

OK. When I saw you search, I noticed that it was a basic search of "all text" in "all open resources." When I right click in the translation and select "search this resource," nothing is returned. That is apparently because it is defaulting to a bible search of the translation. However, a basic search does return all the results. It seems that Logos wants to treat it--correctly--as a Bible, but the search function doesn't like that. I wonder why?

So, this gives me a workaround to that problem. Now I just need a solution for the font issue.

The more I think of it, the more dissatisfied I am with the workaround. In the Basic search, I can't search a particular book of the Bible or the whole of a single testament, etc. Is there any way that I can get that functionality with a personal book that is a Bible?

In Word my fonts were Utsaah and Mangal - both appeared to work. I had simply converted a PDF which left a few oddities but none similar to the font problem that you showed.

Yes. I've tried both of those fonts. All of them appear to display perfectly, except for that one vowel mark when it comes at the end of a word. It doesn't appear in any of the words I saw in your copied text. The weird thing is that when I copy the text into the search bar, it appears correctly!

Start a new thread with the word BUG: as the first word in the title, describe the problem and take a screen shot of it appearing correctly in the search box but incorrectly in the text display. It sounds like a rendering problem in Logos.

I had used Sanskrit rather than Hindi to test the fonts which put me at a disadvantage at finding the correct combination to test.

Are you sure you put all the verse, chapter and bible book markers into your PB bible, compiled it as type bible (not monograph) and let the indexer finish?

Load up a sample file (and/or logs and screenshots) and someone might be able to help you.

NB,

Yes, all of the milestones and tags are correct. It navigates books, chapters, and verses beautifully. Also, it is compiled as a Bible. The indexer finished every time I have tried it. I'm not where I could upload a sample file right now, but I will before long.

Here is a link to the Matthew Word file that I created. Hopefully, everything looks the same in yours as it does in mine, as I use a user-created template and heading styles. Let me know if any of you see anything that could be causing problems. There are just a few formatting tweaks that I will yet make.

Bible Search isn't working because you're not using the Bible Text field. Logos uses this field to distinguish between the actual text of the Bible and other content in the Bible, such as verse numbers, headings, footnotes, and so on.

Just for clarification. I already have the verse milestones and tags for the actual verse numbers. It looks like all I should have to do is insert {{field-on:Bible}} after every verse number tag, and {{field-off:Bible}} before every verse milestone. It would look something like this:

OK. I tried that. I end up with tons of "closing field bible that is already closed" warnings. I don't get any "opening field bible that is already open warnings." However, it appears to be doing Bible searches perfectly!

I don't know, to be honest. You could do a quick find/replace in Word to move field off codes to before paragraph breaks.

Search for ^v{{field-off:Bible}} and replace with {{field-off:Bible}}^v (use ^l if they're line breaks rather than proper paragraph breaks).

Thanks for the search and replace tip. The only thing holding me back from using it is the fact that some of the verses (such as those that contain certain types of quotes or poetry) have been broken up by the translators. While this F/R would work for most of the verses, it wouldn't work for some. I think my less clean method may have to work for now, until I have the time to work through the translation by hand and move the tags.

Strictly speaking, you should put the field indicators around all Bible text, and only Bible text. Logos will use these field markers for Bible Search, the Text Comparison tool, and the Bible Text only visual filter.

I've not personally used footnotes in PB Bibles. So before going to the trouble of putting field off/on indicators before/after every footnote indicator, I would check to see whether it matters. If you can see the footnote indicators in Text Comparison, or in the Bible Text only visual filter, then you'll need to add these off/on indicators. If you can't see the footnote indicators in those places (or, if you don't care that you can see them!), then you won't need them.

I don't see how it can do that. The F/R that I suggested would only find occasions where a carriage return was followed immediately by a field off indicator. It would not find occasions where a carriage return occurred in the middle of a verse (because there wouldn't be a field off indicator in the middle of a verse).

OK. I ran the F/R (substituting "v" for "p"). It seemed to do what you said it would do. It did create one problem. Some of the field tags were put up against Level 3 section headings. However, it didn't help with the warnings. Here is an excerpt from the Word doc. Can you spot anything wrong?

I just did a little test. I corrected some of the field tags that were up against level 3 headings. This did reduce the number of warnings a bit. So, now I need to move all {{field-off:Bible}} tags that are at the end of these Level 3 lines to a place before (?) the previous paragraph break. This is how it looks: (paragraph break)(Level 3 heading--usually a string of words){{field-off:Bible}}

I think it needs to look like this: {{field-off:Bible}}(paragraph break)(Level 3 heading--usually a string of words)

Likely, this will put some up against Level 2 headings (my chapter markers). I suppose the F/R used above would simply have to be tweaked to fix the remainder.

What F/R could do this? Thanks in advance for your help. For the future, I've also got to figure out a script that would place them in the correct slots to begin with.
