Thanks to Dave Hooton for all the help in the past, but it's still crashing. I deleted the index file and started from scratch. It still gets to a few minutes left and crashes. If I search my library I get no search results.

I think he wants you to use the DOS like window. e.g Start->Run and type command.
I did for the first entry and then the other window popped up.
so you typed the full string in item 4 ?
cscript ADPlus.vbs -crash -sc "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Logos4\System\Logos4.exe"
Let me try and install this and see if it works on my system
Hmmmm... i cannot run this as administrator.
Sorry.
What do I do once I get here? If you don't see this tonight, I won't be around until after 5:00 ET tomorrow night. Thanks again.
Hmm... I'm not sure why WinDbg opened. The commands in Steps 3 and 4 should be entered in the administrative command prompt, which will end up looking something like this:
It will open a new command prompt window (minimised by default) named cdb.exe. This window will output a lot of debugging information. Once Logos 4 crashes, that window will automatically close.
(I'll test the instructions on a Windows 7 64-bit machine later and see if they need to be adjusted.)
I closed and reopened the command prompt, reentered everything and got the following message:
It's done. The file is 601MB. Megaupload only allows for 200. Any other ideas how to get it to you?
You could use WinRar or 7-zip to spit the file into multiple pieces to send.

Update: My ISP is HughesNet so I've made a DVD and am sending it via snailmail to Logos...
It's in the mail!

Bradley Grainger and Don Everett were able to look at my computer today and are looking at the DVD I sent as well. It seems I am the only person who is having this problem and that it may be a Microsoft problem. It's running a lot better now but still incessantly indexes. Thanks Logos and everyone in the forum! When it's finally figured out I'll post again. Have a Happy New Year!
Anyone know how to run the memtest? The program is more stable but still never finishes indexing. I now have installed all updates and have 4.0a SR-2 (4.01.3.4767) Thanks, Mike
Thanks again for being available today so we could connect with your computer. Looking over the crash dumps we were able to locate the crash but unable to reproduce it during our tests. To verify there are no memory or hardware related issues that could be causing the problem could you please run a diagnostic on the computer like the one found at http://www.memtest.org/. If that report finds no problem then it could be a problem with .NET Framework on the computer, a bug in the Logos 4 program or an incompatibility with add-ons you have on the computer.
Don
Anyone know how to run the memtest?
I've done so many times.
Michael,
It appears from your screenshots that you're running windows 7. Are you aware that microsoft has a built in memory tester?
click start and type Windows memory diagnostic in the find box.
Thank you Thomas. I'm running it on that computer now.
No errors showed up with the memory test. Is there a way to check my .net framework for errors? I have all of the same add-ons on the Vista computer that is running properly and the Windows 7 one that is having problems.
Crashed again on start-up. Here's the log file.

How can I try a clean re-index with my current version of Logos? (It's listed a few posts above this) Would it help?
It crashed again as soon as I re-started it.
0714.Logos4.log
There's no exception in the log file, which typically indicates that the crash happened "outside of" Logos 4; this is consistent with the GC heap corruption I noticed when connected to your computer.
At that time, I noticed three other programs that were attaching themselves to Logos 4; it's possible that one of them is interfering with the program. It would be very useful to know if Logos 4 still crashes if these programs are not running. (It may not be possible to disable them without completely uninstalling them.) The programs are:
A quick read on the internet indicates that Bonjour may not be easy to uninstall; moreover, since it's installed with iTunes, many other users also have it installed and don't appear to be having problems. The first two programs appear to be unique to your installation and (I think) would be worth uninstalling to see if the Logos 4 crashes cease.
I've disabled Windowblinds and CursorFX and I'm deleting Bonjour now. I DO NOT have Bonjour on the computer that is working right. I know I have the first two on my other computer and they haven't affected it there. Logos 4 used to crash if I changed a blind but since 4.0a it has not. Would this also affect my ongoing indexing?
Depending on how those programs are written, it may not be enough for them to be disabled; to make sure the test results are accurate, we would need to ensure that their DLLs aren't being loaded by Logos 4 when it runs. To do this, download ListDLLs from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896656.aspx. Open an Administrator Command Prompt and enter
C:\Where\You\DownloadedIt\ListDLLs.exe > C:\DLLs.txt
Find the C:\DLLs.txt file in Windows Explorer and open it in Notepad. Find "Logos4.exe" in the file and examine the DLL list to ensure that nothing related to WindowBlinds or CursorFX is listed. (Alternatively, email it to me (bgrainger@.) and I can check it for any other "unusual" entries.)
The nature of the crash is such that it's likely to be the problem behind the indexing crashes, too.
I couldn't do it the way you suggested but I downloaded the Process Explorer program from a link on that page. Tell me if this screenshot answers your question. Logos 4 is in the bottom right corner.
The indexer has shut down on it's own again but Logos 4 hasn't crashed yet.
5305.Logos4Indexer.log
Please select Logos4.exe in the top list, and press Ctrl+D to open a lower pane that shows DLLs. Then select columns in the bottom pane and ensure DLL > Path is shown. Then you can use File > Save As to save the list of DLLs. (Or take multiple screen captures; it will probably be about three or four pages.)
Here it is:

That list looks clean to me.
Should I try a rebuild index command now?
Yes, go for it.
One last question for now. I did a rebuild index, it finished while I ate supper so I closed Logos 4 and reopened it and it started indexing again. Should I do a merge index or try some other command? Thanks again. The program is well worth the wait!
Here's what I get when I search now.
Just a small note. I have windowblinds installed and I haven't noticed any indexing problems.
I also have Adobe creative suite which installed the bonjour service, but I disabled it a long time ago.
What OS do you use?
Just a small note. I have windowblinds installed and I haven't noticed any indexing problems. What OS do you use?
I'm running Windows XP SP3
I just read all those pages on this thread. Although Michael has done the memory test and it passed, I still think there is a chance that there is a memory problem.
I have seen computers before that passed all kinds of memory testing and still in the end the problem was memory. And normally with random crashes the problem is almost always a memory problem. Sometimes memory problems don't show up until a memory intensive application is started.

If memory serves, Michael is running fine with WindowBlinds on Vista, but not on Windows 7; it's possible that WindowBlinds, Win 7, and Logos 4 don't play nicely together.

If I had a dollar for every time another application caused a crash in Logos...
Has the indexing completed now? Or does it re-index every time you start? If so, log files might help identify the cause.
Is the application running without crashing when WindowBlinds and CursorFX are disabled, or does it still have problems?
Logos just crashed again. I was toggling back and forth between passages using the forward and back arrows. Here's the log files. The index log is from when it quit last night.

So the following programs cause, caused, or potentially cause problems with Logos4 software:
Nokia, CyberSitter, Kensington MouseWorks, Dragon Naturally Speaking.
In addition, some registry settings (including illegal characters in the fonts section, and malformed or missing data in the User Shell Folders section of Explorer).
(EDIT: possibly add WindowBlinds under Win7 to the list)
Is this the current status for these programs, or have some of these issues been resolved?
If there are other known software or registry conflicts, it might be helpful to see them listed. Or are they already?
Thanks in advance.
We can't work around the CyberSitter and MouseWorks problems; those programs need to be uninstalled if they're causing crashes. All others have been fixed.
Great!
(Including Nokia software? That was an early program conflict, and the only one I knew about until today. So I want to be clear.)
EDIT: Reading through those articles raises another question: Might there be some programs causing Logos4 slow downs, like the ones mentioned in these forums? How would one begin to track those down?
I don't have any of the current known software on my computer. I uninstalled Windowblinds a while back and still had the indexing problem.
That was fixed in 4.0 SR-5: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/3921/30703.aspx
