Predictions: My Sweet Sixteen

Hey,

Here are the authors that I think will make it to the sweet 16 (not necessarily who I want to make it though).

Division 1: MacArthur slightly makes it and he take on Waltke.

Mounce will take on Carson in the lower bracket.

Division 2: Metzger meets Lloyd-Jones.

Bonhoeffer squeezes in against Calvin.

Division 3: Piper vs. Sproul. This seems to be a gimme.

Moo vs. Wright. Another gimme.

Division 4: Spurgeon vs Morris (he could be upset by Barth though).

I have no idea in this division: So I'll say Owen vs. Wesley.

What are your predictions? Who will get the highest score? (1 points for a correct answer in the Sweet Sixteen; 2 for the final eight; 4 for the final four, and 5 for the final, and 7 for the champ) Join in the fun. turn in Sixteen before the first round ends. Or just do it for fun, whenever.

Of course if this was proper football it would have to be Fergie vs. Mourinho for the title. And we know who would win that!!!!

I already made my prediction of the final 8, 4, & 2...and I think it is identical to what happened last year. I think Wright v. Carson is up in the air since both have had things come out this year...it will depend on what is actually offered.

David- You maybe right on the Final two. However, there could be an upset if enough people already have Carson and Wright materials choose not to vote for them and rally others to do the same.

Michael- For the past two years, we haven't known the resources on offer until it's been released. Some users have suggested that they would like to know ahead of time. This way we are bidding on the resources of the author, rather than the hope of a particular resource being on sale by an author...Maybe David has some 'inside' intel. Please do tell.

I am officially BORED TO TEARS with March Madness. I thought that this year there was sure to be a change in the guard. There won't be.

The Official Winners List by Division:

DIVISION 1 -- Carson defeats MacArthur

Please, don't even bother to wake me when it's over. I might be dreaming of a contest that has at least a modicum of interest to it. This definitely isn't it.

This is my prophecy...not a big stretch since, like I said earlier in this thread, I think this represents either exactly or nearly so what happened last year. As far as what will be available, my insight doesn't stretch that far, though I do expect Carson's Variegated Nomism & Wright's Paul & the Faithfulness of God to be included, both of which I already own.

I wish I could just send Logos $100 for the Walter Brueggemann Collection, but as it is, I doubt Logos will get a dime from me this March Sadness.

Well, duh, David. (I'm joking.) If Logos selected the authors on volume, title count and discountability, I think the winners are pretty much pre-defined relative to the pairing.

And given 'no titles', Logos has carefully rigged (again joking) the game to avoid undue surprises. Indeed, a fairly rudementary spreadsheet should have delivered the event's planned margin to the Marketing VP prior to the sale for his approval.

Now, in a more sophisticated operation, the spreadsheet would deliver an estimate on the market segmentation buildout, but given their selection rules, I'd assume it's a one-time shot.

It's Elite Eight time!

Carson, last year's champ is guaranteed to be in the final four over McGrath.
It looks like we might have an upset with Wright being defeated by Fee. Fee is up by nearly 200 votes.
The Legacy Races are the closest. Spurgeon is edging out Owen by 8 votes as of 15:15 gmt. And Lloyd Jones has a 101 vote lead on Bonhoeffer. It's close.

Let's see what happens.

Well said. As I understand it, Bonhoeffer believed that sometimes in order to bring about a greater good, sometimes a Christian could not but sin (i.e. lying to the Nazi's when asked if you have Jews in your basement). I wish I could remember the source but I don't; it is something a professor discussed with us in metaphysics at SEBTS. Perhaps this scripting voter who has given Bonhoeffer the victory thought he was affecting a greater good scenario?

In any case, I don't see why logos should wait. perhaps for the final round they could limit votes to those who have been logged in, with one vote per account. I can't imagine that could be too difficult. Why wouldn't they?

I agree....I was just saying that the rules don't spell it out. Hundreds of votes in minutes isn't fair.

Actually, having looked at the list, I don't mind Wright being voted out. The newest 'for Everyone' commentaries weren't included, and nor were the newest volumes on Paul.

I was hoping the newest 'everyone' would be on offer. It was on sale last month and maybe they decided not to do it twice (much like Moo's Roman's commentary). Oh well.
