Is there an easy way to stop a download?

I was using my iPad in church for the first time today. Our church doesn't have much bandwidth available, so when changing verses, sometimes the dreadful spinning pizza would appear. A few times, it just stayed, and when it does, it locks up the app.

Is there a way to force the thing to stop doing what it is doing so it isn't locked up?

I don't have a good answer. One way: Delete the app from the device AND from the device from logos.com. That SHOULD stop the download. I know this isn't a good answer, but it is the best answer I have. I don't know of any actual way to prevent or stop a download.

Actually, Graham's advice isn't bad at all. If the issue is that the resource being read continues to access the cloud, downloading the resource in advance would solve the problem of slow performance when actually reading. Besides, the OP didn't ask about eliminating downloading. He wanted to stop a download in progress.

I don't have a tablet, but don't they have a switch (hard or soft) for shutting down signal acquisition?

I had seen the subject line but thought that the most likely explanation was that the resource being used hadn't been downloaded and so a prior download would solve it.

There was nothing to indicate that "random downloading" was taking place and causing the problem.

Good point - you can switch the table into "Airplane mode" and this will stop any network activity.

And yes as has been pointed out, shutting down the signal (airplane mode, etc) is better then shutting down the device. [:)]

I guess I was thinking of the situation of someone in church using "Proclaim", when they wanted to be connected to the internet, and then without thinking trying to access a large resource in their library that they had not previously downloaded.

I was thinking of something like a "pause download" button.

Judging from the responses of others, the answer to my question is no (at least for now).

accessing a non-downloaded resource won't trigger a download automatically, it will simply be accessed over the internet and will just download a few pages and cache them for access. So there might be a temporary blip but it shouldn't cause a big problem.
