I do have a few of the volumes in this collection from the IVP Essentials set, but I don't have any of the OT dictionaries, nor (obviously!) the second edition of DJG. I was also pleased to see the Christmas discount code work on my dynamic price for the 5 volumes in this collection I don't already own. [Y]

Although I currently have, the complete set, I don't have the second edition of DJG (it isn't even shown in pre-pub AFAIK) and I found that dynamic pricing works so I could purchase the bundle to effectively just buy the new volume for 24% off. I think this is cheaper than pre-pub, based on the last two OT volumes in the series.

That is just the dynamic publishing off the regular price. You have to add the 12 days discount code into the box to get $32.62.

I don't know what the new edition has but I'm hoping there is significant interaction with N.T. Wright's works, especially Jesus and the Victory of God. I'm studying this at the moment and finding it quite convincing but also quite startling. I find DJG to seem a bit old-fashioned in comparison and I'd like DJG2 to interact more, either accepting Mr Wright's work or posing counter-arguments.

There should be two copies. Assuming you own the first edition, and also buy the second edition, since you've paid for two different editions, you should keep both.

27 new articles
22 omitted articles

Interestingly, he notes that there are more theological articles included on issues like the “Incarnation” and “Christology.”

Clifford Kvidahl also summarizes some of the changes of the new edition.

The page count is up to 1,088 pages, compared to 933 in the first edition.
There are a total of 128 contributors in the second edition, compared to 95 in the first.

Thanks Ken. Somehow I missed that. The only volume that I was missing was the second edition so it is interesting that my credit card was already charged for this purchase. I would have thought that I would not be charged until the volume was delivered. Am I missing something?

Michael, you will not be charged for a product that you already own. I think you are in the same boat as a number of us who are a bit confused about the delivery of the second edition.

My understanding is that we are paying for the resource up front and will receive the resouce when it exits the pre-publication status. The interesting part is that it is not listed as a stand alone pre-publication resource. I didnt want to miss the deal so I jumped on it.

By past practice, if we have to pay for a new edition we keep BOTH copies in our library.
This new edition seems to be more substantially rebuilt than many other"new editions" of other books that have been offered from time to time.

First edition had 913 pages and the second edition is said to have 1120 pages.

If I check out sample page 2, https://www.logos.com/images/PageScans/37742pages/005/37742_005_02.jpg , it shows that entries for Abba and Abiathar have been omitted from the second edition and the entry for "Abiding" has been substantially rebuilt, as have many subseuent entries.

Abiding

As a common translation of the Greek verb menein, "to abide" has rich theological associations in the Fourth Gospel where 40 of the 112 NT occurrences of the verb occur (it appears another 26 times in the Epistles of John). It is used to communicate the enduring character of Christ*, and more importantly, when used with the preposition "in" and a personal object, it points to the relationship of mutual indwelling of the Father, the Son (see Son of God) and the believer.

1. Abiding As a Quality of Character

In the Greek OT menein, when used in a theological sense, most commonly speaks of the abiding character of God*. In contrast to the transitory nature of all things human, God remains, he endures, he is immutable. In the NT period this was considered to be a trait of the Messiah also, as evidenced by the crowds in John’s Gospel who say, "We have heard from the Law* that the Christ abides forever" (12:34). And John would have us know that Jesus is the Son who abides forever (8:35), who gives food that abides unto eternal life (6:27), and who enables one to produce fruit that abides (15:16).

In addition, in the first use of the verb in the Gospel, the Evangelist relates that John the Baptist (see John the Baptist) saw the Holy Spirit (see Holy Spirit) coming down from heaven* as a dove and remaining (emeinen) on Jesus (1:32). This was no momentary experience of the Spirit, perhaps like that of the judges or prophets*, but an enduring reality in Jesus’ life.

2. Abiding in Relationship

Of greater interest is the use in John’s Gospel of the phrase "to abide in" with a personal object to express the relationship of Jesus to the Father and both to believers..........

I was a bit confused too, but after doing the math I realize the new edition was only going to cost me $32 bucks, so I went ahead and jumped in. I'm sure those of us who purchased the second edition this way have spent less money than those who sign up for it when it appears on the pre-pub page. The item is not in the prepub page yet, so I'm guessing it'll show up later, since it's already in production according to Logos.

It was confusing.

The rev. ed. is a part of the 8 vol. pkg. We are buying a pkg. This pkg is unusual in that 1 vol. is still in pre-pub, even though it is not listed in the pre-pubs.

For those of us who already owned the original 8 vol., when we purchase the 12 Days special priced pkg, it is only the pre-pub item that we are charged for.

If the whole set was still in pre-pub, we would not be charged until the set was released. I don't think anyone who doesn't already have the whole set wants to wait until the one volume is released to be able to download the set.
