What are your prioritized top five suggestions for Logos?

Here in the Logos Forums, we have endless requests for software updates, suggested products, suggested bundles, etc. We generally ask for everything as well as the kitchen sink! Logos User Voice is full of them too. Some of them are very important to us, but others of them we could live without.

But if you wanted Logos to prioritize, which suggestions are THE most important for you?

Here are mine:

1) Memorize entire passages in Memorization Tool instead of one verse at a time.

It's a great interface, but as it is almost unusable to memorize long passages. I don't use it at all anymore, and I would use the Memorization Tool all the time if this were fixed.

2) Send to Kindle function.

I would use this ALL THE TIME, and would always buy things in Vyrso over Amazon.

3) Tag all the references properly in the Exegetical Summaries series.

These are THE most important resources in my library because they point me to other important resources. Unfortunately, the tagging in these resources range from poor to non-existent, severely limiting their functionality.

4) A morphologically-tagged Qur'an.

This would be immensely useful for Christians ministering to those members of the fastest growing religion in the world.

5) Work out a deal with Moody Publishers.

Needs no comment.

I can sympathize/agree with many of your Logos software dreams.

But please be careful about using that word "prioritize"  in this manner. That word is a FUNCTION within the Library.

And as people are encouraged to go to the Library to "prioritize" their "top 5" of many differing Resource types, your

    "prioritized top five"

    could really cause confusion.

Perhaps this Forum posting could be [adapted/given a different title?] that would still express your desire?

    Sorry.

"Prioritize" is a common word in English, and I don't think the fact that Logos has co-opted it and used it for the name of one of their functions would cause it to be misunderstood in this context.

I think near the top would be to fix the tagging mess from the last update.  I've stopped tagging for the time being; what were they thinking?

The Kindle thing, I really wonder about (whether it's in Logos' best interests).  Definitely above my paygrade. Would be nice, of course.

Choosing what to download, Bob seems to have already hinted at (probably in Logos6 this fall). That'd be great for us Libby-ites.

Then there's the missing resources that will never see light.  Coptic dictionary, Samaritan OT, Targum/Talmud Dictionary, and so forth (Japanese or Chinese or Korean or Malaysian or ??? ... interlinear). Logos needs to open an office somewhere around the Sinai, maybe in a monestary with a library.

I understood what he said since the word was used in the sense he wished to convey it in this specific context. [:)]

    no more indexing

I'd rather download my indexing from Logos' server like how Android works, rather taxing my computer.

    We can all dream ....

    1. Ability to make minor adjustments within PRINT REVIEW eg. alter spacing, add bold text, delete/add the footnotes, delete paragraphs.

    2. Ability to RIGHT CLICK in any resource and find out what font Logos prefers, and if that is not available, what font is currently being used.

    3. Am I allowed to say I miss the colours in Logos 3???

    4. Easier to see and use scroll bar.

    5. To avoid having double spaces when copy/paste resource section into Word.

    1) Overhaul "prioritization" management in the Library.

    2) Speed. I have a Core i7, 12GB RAM, very fast SSD, and there's still sluggishness doing certain operations.

    3) Eliminate verse boundary constraint for Bible proximity searches.

    4) Overhaul sentence diagramming (performance, stability, flexibility, ease of use)

    5) SQL-like query language, e.g. SELECT author, count(*) FROM UBS4 WHERE lemma="g:baptizo@VPPI" GROUP BY author. Note in particular that results don't have to be verse-oriented as all current morphology search results seem to be. I want to be able to get data results, not just verse results.

Without taking too long to think:

    1) International bible translations, including Norwegian and perhaps Icelandic for my usage.

    2) PBB sync to mobile devices. If this is done, I could live without 1), because I would prepare those resources myself. However that would only help me, not everyone else who has the same complaint.

3-4) Speed and space. (I hardly ever bother opening Logos on my laptop because of the speed issue) I put these two together since I believe they are related. Reducing both could be achieved by letting you choose which resources to download, and which to keep online. That would reduce the local hardware resources needed. Hopefully that would also simply adding resources to your library. As of now, an new resource is just added to your update queue. This means you need to individually install all updates in the queue to get the resources. During this process you will need to download the update, install it, restart and perhaps even re-index. So, furthermore, I would be relieved to loose the index, and rather move it online. When offline, Libronix-style search would do just fine.

    5) PBB marketplace

Not that Logos can do much but we have pre pubs of WBC that are over 2 years old. For me the lack of having the final volume in Job is very disappointing.

Ah, I forgot about this one. Yes, this on my list too. I just downloaded a bunch of Cornerstone Commentaries, and added the NLT to the priority list for each volume of the series. My priority list probably has a few hundred entries. It's not top priority, since it's still doable, but boy, it's annoying and time-consuming, and you would think it could be fixed easily.

    In no particular order:

    • Google glass compatibility.
    • Enhanced functionality for recipe-book resources (including recipe search tool and recipe calculator)
    • Natural language sermon-generation tool (with user-selectable target language)
    • Exhaustive tagging of verses according to their use as theological proof texts.
    • Fully-tagged archive of Dynamite magazine for doing mid/late 20th century cultural studies.
    • Faster, cheaper, smaller and more functional.

This should be enough to keep them busy.

Better support in tagging for devotionals, so for example it's easy to pick a book meant to be read throughout Lent and either read it simply as a devotional or as a reading plan- some of the Lenten resources that came out were impossible to read properly on a day by day basis, either as devotional or reading plan.

I'm sorry, I meant WBC upgrades (e.g. Acts volume and Job part 3 and the other revised versions that have been lingering in pre-pub for quite sometime now).  I really wish that, at least, Acts part 1 was out since I'll start teaching Acts in a couple of weeks.  I have plenty of material but wouldn't mind seeing what WBC on Acts has to offer.

    1. Better coding for OSX users.

    2. Better use of system memory and memory leaks.

    3. Less dependance on Logos servers.

    4. Faster/more efficient search functions ( though better now, can still be improved).

    5. Orthodox Resources.

I'm teaching through Acts now - finishing chapter 18 this week, Lord willing. It is a bit strange not having a WBC resource to turn to. But there are a bunch of other very good ones, BECNT being at the top of my list. And the Zondervan Exegetical Commentary on Acts just came out in Logos yesterday. Seems quite good so far. Bruce from the NICNT is very weak, IMO.

Enjoy it - it's a great book to teach from!

Yes, BECNT is at the top of my list too along with PNTC! They're both awesome volumes.  I must agree with you, F.F. Bruce is not what I expected it to be, but it's useful nonetheless.  I have it in Spanish.  One hidden underestimated jewel is Holman's NT Commentary on Acts.  Helps me get my wheels turning when it comes to applications along with Preaching the Word on Acts.

Question for you: What were you conclusions/findings on why Paul shaved his head? (Since coincidentally you'll be finishing Acts 18 and this incident is found in Acts 18).  I haven't even started Acts and some members are already asking me about that and why Timothy was circumcised and why Titus was not, if we're not supposed to be under the rituals of the Old Law, etc.

It's going to be a great study and I'm really looking forward to it.

Ps. (Disclaimer): This is not to ask for a theological debate, just for your conclusions/findings on the issue, that's all.

I have not put in 5 yet, here is my second one; I REALLY hope Logos considers this.

    Does anyone use Cited By?

    1. To configure what collections show takes forever - when you click the little arrow left of the title, it delays a long time before the dialog drops down. I have a very fast computer and it takes about 6 seconds to drop down.

    2. It takes so long because HUNDREDS of things are under "collections" - collections and mytags at least.

    3. The list of things to turn on and off ("Collections") is not organized alphabetically - it is for awhile, but collections and mytags are interspersed. What's the logic to the order of the list?

    4. Because the list appears to be random, you have to carefully scroll through to find something - additionally tedious because, with hundred of collections and mytags, it only shows 6 at a time

    5. Even if you get it organized the way you want, it is short-lived - it seems collections that you create are automatically added in there. So you have to go in and turn them off if you don't want to see them.

    6. "Drag to change order" for the order of the collections to display - are you kidding me? Ever try dragging something from down low to high up, when there are hundreds to get through, it's slow because of the copious amounts of processing going on, and you can only see 6 entries at a time?

The maintenance of this tool was built apparently when the thought was someone would have 10-15 Collections/tags. IT DOES NOT SCALE to the hundreds of entries many of us have. If you use this, I can't believe you won't see how impossible it is to maintain it the way you want to see it for your study. This is one of those things where I really do wonder whether Logos people use the product or just play with the areas they work on; it really is unusable.

    PLEASE! and Thank you!

Does anyone use Cited By???  You're singing to the choirgirl!

On mine, the CB list comes up almost instantly. But I have almost no collections. So, reading the collections might be the slowness (might also explain why they don't manage collections similar to tags in the library).

But I agree wholeheartedly. I suspect they never expected the tool to be so powerful. (Or Logos for that matter.)

I'm just worried what they'll mess up next.  Absent new tags/collections, the little things stay pretty much in place (in my layout). CB's are about the only power-thing unique to Logos (oh ... there's the pretty verses. That's key.)

    Besides amen-ing this:

    1. Original language resources: database integrity (text and tagging), iron-clad searches, conformance to accepted conventions in line with (dare I say "exceeding"?) standards set by other OL Bible software.

    2. Self-healing routines vis-a-vis indexing and layouts, or any modules that might lead to crashes or infinite loops.

    3. Nothing else, really. 1 and 2 would take Logos to the very top in my book.
