BUG 5.2a SR 1: Entering reference in Word Lists

1) Open a new Word List.

2) Click Add.

3) Type in a reference.

4) Change the Bible.

>> The reference disappears.

(Though at least the dropdown with the choice I just made is helpful enough to remain.)

-- Or at least this was the sequence a day or two ago (when I may still have been on 5.2a) and first wrote this report, but waited to post it because I had encountered some other things I wanted to investigate first.

Now, however, selecting the reference from the dropdown adds an automatic execution between 3) and 4), while typing it in in full results in the helpful dropdown disappearing as well. Odd. But in both cases the main problem remains.

(Not sure I like that automatic execution. I read left to right, so the natural sequence for me is to enter the reference first and change the Bible afterwards. That makes the autoexecution a nuisance. Especially as the only way to stop it before it's finished is to close the whole panel and start anew.)

I can reproduce this and I will create a case for Development to investigate this issue.

This is by design since this is how all our drop-down lists work.

For example, open a new Passage Guide, type in "Mark 1:1", then select "Mark 1:1" from the suggestion list; the guide will immediately start running.

Bad example.[:)] PG's don't have anything other than the reference to set, so there the behaviour makes perfect sense.

Not all. Go to Search, type in g:agape, and select the appropriate Greek word. It does not execute automatically.

But if you make the text of the Add dropdown large enough for me to read, and add a bit of space above the box so that my brain sees the Bible setting as clearly above the box rather than to the right of it, I'll take back the earlier request.[:)]

Btw, the whole of this thread is low priority. I rarely use Word Lists. There are plenty of dropdowns I have far more need to be able to read. Especially the ones with Hebrew.

I really wish, though, that Cmd-. (or Esc) worked to halt things when one has accidentally launched something prematurely. Sitting waiting several minutes for something one never wanted in the first place is a bit annoying.

You had an example further up: entering a reference in a Word List, thereby accidentally launching it, and then having to sit waiting for it to finish before you can switch to the Bible you really wanted to work with (after first deleting the unwanted results, of course).

Or trying a wild card search (or just a too common word in too many Bibles) in Search, waiting, waiting, waiting, giving up, wanting to abort...

Or starting to build a really large PB, only to realize you've added five files, but missed the sixth...

Sometimes you can 'fake' an abort by closing the tab, but sometimes that's not a good idea, and sometimes Logos is so busy that it doesn't have time to register the closing until it's already done anyway.

You can actually press the 'Esc' key and it will clear the search. [:)]

I'm sorry but increasing the size of the Add dropdown can only be done with Program Scaling (only available on Windows). [:(]
