Moltmann's The Cruicified God is a standard work in late 20th century theology. It is a work which (IMHO) you need not agree with, but do need to be aware of, and react to - a modern classic maybe?

Thanks! My budget won't allow me to purchase all Your suggestions. Due to other purchases that I'm making on Tuesday I also don't have a lot of money left unless I return something from my March 26. purchases - but that money won't arrive on my debit card account in time for this sale. I also sometimes find it hard to have time to read through most books that I buy, although I did make it through the book in my OP and have also read some commentaries cover-to-cover - some of them thick.

Hengel's book is absolutely worth it. It has been the best historical reference on the crucifixion that I have read. It gives details and context to physical and cultural aspects of crucifixion. I took notes on like half the book.
