How do we install Verbum using the Logos5 [Logos4] resource path?

My 'resources' directory / folder is 17.9 Gig. Yes, over time there will be resources that do not do everything advertised under Logos or Verbum [depending of the resource] And Yes, few of us will want both - but few is not ZERO.

Short answer: you can't. Long answer: it may be possible to trick the OS into thinking that the two different resource folders have one physical location on disk, but this is unsupported and very likely to cause problems in both Logos and Verbum; so, even if it seems like you can, you still can't.

If we buy a product from the Logos side will it also load into the Verbum side? And if we buy from Verbum will it load to the Logos side?

Yes. The two programs use the same licenses, the same resources, etc.; they just download and maintain them separately.

Time for a new laptop: 1 T drive, 8 Gig mem, I5 chip. By then there will be 'real' differences between the two.

It's difficult not to comment that it is an awful amount of space for applications that are so much alike except for some options and datasets. Double resources, double indexes and double the amount of indexing needed! Do they sync with each other?

On a handheld device [tablet] the operating system requires that APPS work in sandboxes [no contact between APPS]. But why did Logos require that Logos, Verbum and most likely all other derivatives on 'real' computers [Mac and PC] require different paths to resources?

If they used the same path you could fit twice as many resources into your SSD! And only index once per resource.

By default, features (such as sharing resource files between two different programs) don't exist; it takes time and money to design, implement, and test them. We planned that users would install either Logos or Verbum, not both, so we didn't spend time solving the file sharing problems for the small number of users who do want to install both. (What if you've upgraded Logos to v5.3, but Verbum is still v5.2? Can they still share files? Then what if you install Noet at again another version? It was far simpler--and practically "free" from an implementation point of view--to make the apps run side-by-side.)

It's difficult not to comment that it is an awful amount of space for applications that are so much alike except for some options and datasets.

Sounds like a good reason to only install one of them to me. [:)]

Currently there are very few differences and those are seen as minor - but latter there are plans to have real differences. And it maybe very difficult to add them with a 'switch' such as 'Set Verbum to Yes'. Expanded Cannon, full lectionary support with full date usage, and others - see some of the other forum treads for 'hints'.

Nice start but a joke at times. I had an issue upgrading today, and decided to go to verbum.com to get the latest version. On the download page the link was to latest version of Logos not Verbum.

All of those are also true when one runs Logos with Set Verbum to Yes.

Now that I have downloaded Verbum, the only difference I can see is the branding on the shortcut, the image that appears when the program is loading, etc. I do not see any differences in real functionality whatsoever.

Wait - they are coming. [[but it might take awhile - maybe a year?]]

However each install of the downloaded Verbum gives Logos more reasons to put more programmers to work on the future differences.

If you always run with Set Verbum to Yes the download is the way to go.

Well, so far Verbum keeps telling me that it's not syncing, although it has synced at least once since it began its consistent synchronization errors. So I have it, and I'll keep it, but for now I may just keep using Logos with Verbum set to Yes for the most part.

The only one I know of is that there is no beta for Verbum. At least there wasn't for 5.2a.

Except for Verbum users wanting to take part in the beta, who have to install both.

I suspect you may have to do something about file sharing eventually. For years, new computers came with more and more HD space, and running two full installs wasn't that much of a problem for most beta testers. Now, with conventional HD's going the way of floppies, and even expensive new computers being rather cramped for space, more and more people may have to opt out of beta testing. Which isn't exactly in your best interest. Or ours.

(For the same reason it was good to see Bob hinting that you're finally considering giving us more control over what to download.)
