E-ink device for Logos App Android

I'm pretty sure the Logos app no longer works on Android 2.1 but it's been a while since I looked at it.  You might be able to dig up an older version of the Logos app and get by for a while. 

I played around with possibilities about a year ago when I got a Nook Touch for $20 on clearance.  But for many people the slowness of loading books/apps even rooted on a Nook Touch/Glowlight is not worth the trouble of trying to get it working.  It is nice in theory to access Kindle and Nook books on one device.  And perhaps worth the trouble if you need to read outside.  Otherwise, there are many options under $100 for 7" Android tablets that run the latest or one revision back of the OS and won't be a hassle/stop working whenever something is updated.

I own a Onyx Boox i62HD. That's a non-android e-ink device. I have exported books from the bible software and converted them to PDF in order to read them on my e-reader. I must say it's so much easier on the eyes to read from my e-reader as opposed to my notebook screen.I would consider buying the T86 if I didn't own an ereader yet.

Only thing with Onyx is that their support is not that well. It is a relatively small china-based company - as compared to major players such as Kobo, Amazon Kindle etc. There are some local dealers, such as one in the States, Poland and Germany. But these companies are even smaller, and it turns out for my device that release of firmwares with bugfixes has come to a hold. Also they promised to release support for TTS screen reading software, but it seems they changed their mind. www.mobileread.com has got a lot of info about these issues from onyx users.
It has turned silent probably because their main attention is on the newer android-based models. At one point also these - now new - devices will become out-of-sale products, and at that point they also might stop releasing firmwares on these models.

But from a hardware standpoint I am satisfied with the reader, and I probably still buy one if it would be the best reader around as it comes to the specs.

Also, guys, what do you think about this? The new Kobo Aura HD has been used to run Android 2.3 via an external Micro-sd. This thing has 1Gz of processor. Can it run the full Logos android app?

Here are some answers to questions I was asked regarding the Onyx Boox T68, they might be of interest.

1. How sharp is the text (as compared to a paperwhite for instance)?
My wife has a paperwhite, I'd say the text is as sharp as the paperwhite. The contrast of the Paperwhite seems slightly better when the frontlight is turned off (but only slightly), the screen of the T68 is a bit more yellow than the Paperwhite when the frontlight is off. With the frontlight on full strenght there is not much difference in contrast, only the color again is a bit more yellow, but I don't mind that very much.

Because of the e-ink screen there are some weird things happening. For example when you go to the library and tap on the i symbol, you do see the cover of the book but you do not see any of the text. I think that is because the normal background of that screen is all black with white letters. Strangely enough the Book Info screen on the T68 is completely white apart from the cover and the download/remove button. A bit annoying but no major problem. When you have 'the words of Jesus in red', the red text is slightly less sharp (becomes light grey), I've turned the red letters off in the app because of it.

2. How long does it take to do a Bible Word Study?
Starting a Bible Word Study takes 2 or 3 seconds (when connected to Wifi). A note on the Word study pie chart, you can distinguish between the main uses (dark and light grey), but not between the grey tones of the others, but that was to be expected.

3. With a book that is downloaded, is there a lag between page turns once it is downloaded or only initially? i.e., can you read at a normal pace without noticeable lag?
There is an initial lag for the first page, but after that it is mostly fine, every now and then you have to wait a little (but no longer than a second, hardly longer than physically turning a page of a book). As I see it now it shouldn't be problematic.

4. How do complex resources such as BAGD function (If you have a copy)
BDAG works all right, again there is a slight lag between some pages, but again no more than a second. One disadvantage of the e-ink screen is that you can't distinguish the blue hyperlinked text, but then when you know the resource you can guess what the hyperlinks are and if in doubt you just tap on it and find out quick enough.

5. If you could post a video somewhere there are lot of people that would love you!
I've never done that before for something like this and don't have time this week unfortunately. I might try it next week.

6. When using a greek text (say Robinson's Byzantine 2005) How long does it take to look up parsing information?
I've tried with UBS4, it takes 2 or 3 seconds, no longer than on my Nexus7.

Just as an aside, the touch screen is responsive enough but not as responsive as a tablet (e.g. Nexus 7). You do have to tap twice or thrice every now and then. One example is when you are in a resource and want to get back to the menu, tapping the upper left corner, the plastic edge of the screen gets in the way a little and you often have to tap more than once.
 
The software is still a bit rough, but from what I've seen so far I am not sorry I ordered it. It will be great to be able to read my Logos resources on the e-ink screen. It definitely seems the best option there is today for that.

Well, I've got an SD card and got exactly the same behavior. I've been googling around a bit and apparently this behavior is not unique for the T68. It all depends on the app whether you can move things to the external SD card. I guess Onyx only thinks of books and pdf to store on the external SD, I noticed an option in settings to scan the external SD for books. But an app like Logos Bible app doesn't work that way unfortunately...

I guess we'll have to wait until someone finds a way to root the device, then it should be possible to somehow link the Logos directory to the external SD. It's a pity, but I don't need to have my whole library on the reader so I'm still quite happy to be able to read Logos resources on it.
