Hi all, I've been trying to do a search for everything Jesus said, but I'm a bit clueless about how to go about getting it done in L5. Any thoughts?
In a clause search you can request subject:Jesus verb:said which should come close.
Or you can use the Bible Search and use a wild card searching the text Words of Christ
Thanks MJ, but that clause search doesn't work (there's no 'verb:said') and the bible search, while able to search through the words of Christ, doesn't have an easy way to list the passages that contain what He said. If I search for ANY, like in the clause search, it searches for the word 'any'.
The query is: subject:jesus verb:to say
It will list the verses that identify Jesus as speaking or using the words "I say", but won't list all the verses that contain that speech e.g. the Sermon on the Mount Mt 5:3 to 7:27
Thanks Dave also! It's a shame there's no easy way to list everything He said :P
Any other thoughts?
Joel, a forum user in the past has generated a file with that you can use to build a passage list of all the Words of Christ. You can then simply review the verses in the passage list or use this list as a basis for doing bible searches. The text file to download can be found in the following post.

The original text file though contains more than one column. I have cleaned it up so there is just one column with the list of verses so you can paste it directly into a verse list.
8688.Words of Chirst.txt
There is also another list available that Dave compiled that is worth creating a passage list from for use and this is one that contains OT Quotes made by Jesus. The link to download the text file can be found in the following post.

Edit. I have created a new Faithlife Group for sharing Passages Lists and have kicked it off with these two lists so you can also now get a copy from this group rather than having to create them yourself.

Search for the wildcard character (*) rather than ANY. Wildcard searches are notoriously slow, because Logos was never optimized to do them fast (its lightning fast searches rely on being able to look up words in the index, but you have no word to look up in the index if you're searching for *).
If you're able to wait through the interminably long wildcard search, then the search results can be saved as a Passage List, which gives you what you want, a list of the passages that contain what He said.
What about the instances when Christ spoke in the Old Testament? ... For those who believe that to be the case.
Ah, for that I guess you'd need this Bible which has all the direct words of God in the Old Testament in red letter (assuming you believe the God of the OT == Jesus and that there are no other words of Jesus in the OT besides those). But it's not available in Logos.
... For those who believe that to be the case.
and for those who can establish the passages...
(assuming you believe the God of the OT == Jesus and that there are no other words of Jesus in the OT besides those)
Thank you for that Faithlife Group.
Thanks guys for the links, articles and other helpful stuff! I did try the wildcard search using a *, but things took so long I thought I'd broken something. So, the explanation about it is really helpful.
Yes if I try to run a wild card search my installation of Logos crashes. Hence I like having the passage list setup ready for whenever I want to review these verses.
