I have a friend who has either logos 2.0 or 3.0 and wants to give it to another friend. Is it possible to use these books in the logos 5.0 free engine? If so what would you be able to do with these books.
Not sure about the L2 resources. I do know I (and many others) have L3 resources that work fine. The issue would be licensing. Your friend would have to licenses for the resources they use.
Should theoretically work without a problem.
You install L2, then install L3, then sync the liscenses to the server, then install L5... It can be done.
From memory, the L2 installer was 16-bit, so you'll have to find a machine that's not running a 64-bit version of Windows to do the Logos 2 install.
L3 will pick up the resources and their licence from an L2 installation and then be able to Sync the licences. If L2 cannot be installed in the same computer (16 bit L2 needs a 32/16 bit OS, not 64/32 bit), you could try putting the resources in folders that have the same name as L2 folders.
If the resource is recognised by L3 it may not be recognised/usable in Logos 5 because it is not available in L3/L4 format and the L2 formatting is sub-standard (usually from third party sources).
