Cannot Select Text

On my MS Surface Pro, when I try to select text to copy on the touch screen keyboard, I can only highlight the word I click on. I do not get the little marker to pull and select the text. It is like I am getting a right click, because that is the menu I get. Other programs do not present a right click menu when I click. Have I missed a setting somewhere?

Thanks for the reply. It works with Verbum on my Nexus 7. With more and more devices using touch screens, I'm sure you have considered adding this feature.
