To ANY Logos Programmer willing to help :)

I have been trying to install L4 or L5 on Ubuntu Linux 14. I am able to install .Net 4.5, DX, and the core fonts from MS, but when I run the L4 or the L5 installer it crashes. The crash is a result of the .msi prerequisite file download. I am confident that L5 or L4 can be installed via wine if we could have an installer that bypassed this .msi file.

So is this possible? I know Linux is not supported by Logos, but allowing us this one bypass couldn't hurt and it would gain you a few hundred users of Linux!

not to curb your enthusiasm, but I assume the prerequisites msi has its name for a reason.... Bypassing it probably wouldn't do. However, if it only installs SQLlite, then perhaps there's a way. Can you install other msi files under wine?

I would assume that if it was easily possible to install on Linux, then one of the devs would have already ported it (if only out of curiosity). Maybe you can mail Bradley directly about it - usually devs don't read the suggestions forum.

Especially since Bob Pritchett has a standing monetary reward for anyone who can successfully port to Linux.

The installer basically just detects if the prerequisites MSI is necessary and installs it if so. Then it installs the regular Logos.msi.

You should be able to "bypass" the installer by just installing Logos.msi directly. You didn't mention installing the Visual C++ runtime redistributable, so you'll probably be missing that (unless WINE emulates it?). There may be other prerequisites in the prerequisites MSI file; I don't remember offhand everything it supplies.

Yes, wine installs the VC++ ReD pack, unless Logos now requires the 2013 version? The older versions run perfectly.

I do believe I can get Logos to install, I think its the Prerequisite check that is killing the install. This file is confused by the wine setup and wont download the files.

Logos 5.2a uses the VC++ 2012 runtime. We will be migrating to VC++ 2013 in an upcoming release.

If you have access to Windows you can use LessMSI to examine the pre-requisties MSI file to see what needs to be installed. It's mostly fonts, with just a few .DLLs from VC++.

I have made it past the Prerequisties part and to the actually install of Logos which completes fine. At logos.exe initialization it crashes. Thats because I was using VC++ 2010. I am going to try VC++ 2012 today and let you know.
