I'm new to Logos software. If I purchase minimal crossgrade base package, can I upgrade it to starter package afterwards?

    Certainly.

However, the discount is greater on your first purchase, so I would buy whatever you can safely afford.

The Logos 5 Minimal Crossgrade is designed only for users who are coming from a Logos 4 base package. If you have never owned a Logos base package, the minimal crossgrade is not what you want because it does not contain many resources required for the software to work properly.

in addition to what others have said please be aware that not all of the features listed in the package definitions are available on the mobile platforms (such as Android).

Are there specific things you are hoping to achieve?

Thanks to everyone for your inputs.

Yes, affordability is the my first consideration. Due to currency exchange, a starter package will cost me around 20% of my total monthly income. Thus I have to choose to lowest package first (minimal crossgrade), then upgrading if needed. Monthly installment is not practical to me also as the fee for recurring payment is USD5 monthly, or around RM17. If I take up 12 month installment plan, it will cost me around RM200.

I'm a teaching and preaching pastor, thus in depth biblical study and sermon preparation will be a great help to me.

If you have no resources, you should purchase starter first - minimal crossgrade contains very few resources if I remember right. Mostly datasets.

Depending on what resources you are looking to acquire, check out the Community Pricing pages.  If they are what you want, you can get some resources at a very low price.

The engine is free.... You can start off by simply  purchasing books you want and then getting the starter when you can afford it. The down side to this is the lack of data sets which will make Logos less powerful than if you had the starter. There was a very inexpensive catholic package: Catechism of the Catholic Church Collection (9 vols.)... But the Catechism is not sold outside of North America at this time do to contractual obligations, so likely not ideal for you. There is always payment plan options to consider as well.

Please be aware that the minimal crossgrade is not a base package. It only contains the new resources between Logos 4 and Logos 5 base packages.

I just wanted to draw attention to the platform issue here.

Are you planning to run Logos on an Android device? (I'm assuming so as you are posting in the Android forum)

While it is great for reading and basic study you may struggle if this was your only device for "in depth biblical study and sermon preparation"

Yes, a good reminder. I mostly use Logos with my Note 3, and sometimes with my Netbook. Both have limitation. Logos Android may not as comprehensive as Logos Windows but running Logos Windows in my Netbook is really very slow....

I run Logos5 on a decently fast Lenovo and a Dell netbook. Plus I have an iPad and iPod, plus a Nexus7.

If I chose between the netbook and iPad, it'd be netbook hands-down.  The netbook is super-slow but gets what I want . That's far better than an iPad that's smooth as silk and not much to work with.

Plus the netbook easily plugs into the projector at church.  In a tiny church, that's critical!
