Trouble Giving Logos Money

I don't know if any of you feel the same way, but I am pretty much constantly sitting around annoyed, waiting for Logos to give me reasons to buy things. I'm pretty sure they feel like they are doing a fine job, but I certainly don't feel that way. When they do come up with something I like and want to take advantage of, they usually attach some sort of time limit to it (3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1-day only), and it's gone before I can take advantage. This past end-of-year was an good example. Another 2-3 days and I would have forked over at least a grand or more. They got none of it.

These recent base packages have me all ginned up to buy something, but I'm not going to because I refuse to bog and clog my computer with stuff I don't want. I would pay the asking price for each of the top end packages if they didn't have unending lists of pointless, useless, needless muck attached to them.

Zondervan's pigheaded refusal to allow dynamic pricing keeps them on my boycott list...and years down the road I haven't considered any of their big three packages that together totals thousands of dollars, even though there are things in them I would be happy to own.

The Orthodox Library Builder has about 5-6 things in it that together are easily worth the price they ask, but like the new base packages, I would be forced to take 5, 6, 7, or 8 (or more??) times as much totally unwanted fill to get them.

I could give a dozen or more smaller examples...like the March Madness "King Carson" recoronation, which gave me all the reason in the world to buy pretty much nothing.

Thing is, I could probably come up with a thousand creative ways to get me to buy and buy again, but at this point I've really gotten to the place where I'm considering taking my money and doing something else with it. Right now it's frustrating. The problem for Logos comes when it starts to feel liberating.

My reading of the forums for awhile now leads me to believe that your concern is not at all unique. If only it were possible to block--in a quick and convenient manner--the downloading of unwanted, paid-for resources before they download.

I would pay the asking price for each of the top end packages if they didn't have unending lists of pointless, useless, needless muck attached to them.

I don't think it would be too hard to find someone willing to go through and hide all of those unwanted resources in return for a small pecuniary consideration.

Zondervan doesn't happen to have much that interests me so I don't generally buy Zondervan.  It's not that I'm boycotting Zondervan, but I'm boycotting references that simply aren't very interesting.  I have no problem giving Logos money—I give them far too much.

I have been making weekly purchases and whittling down my wish list. Life is good. Thank you Logos.

    @ Kent,

Life is good. But I'm still making weekly purchases and beefing-up my wish list (Qumran studies). Actually life is great.

This is the kind of thing I'm talking about...

So, I check this out because it looks like it might be interesting...

...and this is what I see. Do you see what I see? What I see is ZERO reason to get this today, because I can get 50% off on this book anytime I want. As a Portfolio owner, I can get 50% off on bundles any day of the week. Granted, I would have to have a larger than usual pile of pennies to get this OT bundle, but it is something that's on my radar.

However, the point I'm making is this. The book is also part of the Isaiah studies collection, but out of 12 resources in that bundle, only half are in the XL OT bundle. If the daily deal were pretty much any one of the other six books that's NOT in the OT bundle, then I would see a reason to get today's deal. As it stands, another day passes and I'm not getting anything.

I've kvetched more than once that Logos is constantly offering both freebies and sales that Portfolio owners can't participate in. There's tons of stuff I would be interested in if I got the right deal...but like this example, I seem to be on the wrong side of 50/50 more often than often.

David, I'm sorry our products and sales aren't appealing to you. As I'm sure you can understand, it would be impossible to custom-create the perfect product and sale for every customer. (One person's muck is another person's treasure.) We're trying to appeal to the largest number of customers we can, but I'm sure we can improve. If you have specific suggestions for things you'd like to see (sounds like you have thousands), we'd love to hear them (phil@logos.com). You could also call our sales team (800-875-6467) and see if they can help you get a great deal on just the titles you're interested in.

(In fairness to Zondervan, it's not that they don't allow us to apply dynamic pricing. It's that we still have to pay the full royalty regardless of what we sell it for, which would often mean we're losing money, which we've decided against for now. :) )

Phil, if Zondervan will not allow dynamic pricing as desired, then would a special appeal be put in for them to break up their collections much earlier. Say, three weeks after the bundle goes live. I am thinking individual books.

Agreed. Some of the bundles are very unwieldy, and are do not meet the needs of most people.

Well, Phil...perhaps you will be happy to know that I finally caved and got Reformed Diamond just now. Still wish it didn't have a few hundred titles in it, but it's all mine now. Now comes the Big Download, the Big Index, and last and least appealing, the Big Sort...part of why I wish it had less than it does.

So I just got my March Madness Overtime offer...and it ends up squarely in this topic thread. I'm not sure if the offer is a single package assembled for all MM participants (probably the case) or if there is some individual variation (hard to believe). When I got the offer, I was excited for about 15-20 seconds--the number of volumes versus price seemed like a spectacular deal...until I read the list and started to mentally cross off the items I already own. While I can't say for sure, because I long ago passed the place where I know exactly what I have and don't have, the over 90% off deal appears to be much closer to 10% for me. That's disappointment no matter how you slice it. [:(]

I am always surprised at the number of ways Logos is able to leave me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I believe dynamic pricing is available on this so you should get recognition for the volumes you own.

To check this you could add it to your cart and see what the actual "to you" price is

If you haven't already done this could be worth doing.

Never let anyone tell you it doesn't pay to squeak from time to time. It's how you get the grease. Thanks for the advice, Graham. My joy has returned. [:)]
