New computer says can't find Personal books in Logos5

Downloaded Logos5 into new computer. It has Windows 8.1 Everything worked fine on old computer which runs Windows 8. On the new computer it does not find my personal books ...it shows a yellow triangle. I tried deleting one book and then redoing it... adding file and building it... but it won't do it ...says error. I have also found that Windows 13 on new computer does not give me the option to save the document as docx file now. It did in Windows 8. I am concerned I won't be able to make personal books in Logos 5 now. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks. Blessings, Jan ( hislambs@csolve.net )

PBs need to be compiled from .docx for each computer.

Files can copied over manually without a need to recompile. I know this because i had no need to recompile when i updated computers a year ago.

If this is seen in Tools >> Personal Books the source docx files are missing and need to be copied into your Documents folder (or where you stored them on the old computer).

Where does it say "error"?

Do you mean Word 2013? You might have a pre-installed trial version of Office 365 (running Office 2013) that needs to be purchased.

On a mac it is
Drive name:Users:USERNAME:Library:Application Support:LOGOS5 (or LOGOS4 or Verbum):Data:#%^#QE$%$:Resource Manager:Resources:*.lbspbb
#%^#QE$%$=random alphanumeric
*.lbspbb= your PBB files will all be ending with .lbspbb

I had purchased Windows 2013 for my old computer and the techs from whom I purchased the new computer installed Windows 2013 and were able to get permission to use my key from Microsoft. So I should have the right program. I will keep looking . Thanks for your trying to help me.

It would help me if you could explain what Windows 2013 is.

I mistakenly typed Windows 2013. It should read Word 2013, software by Microsoft Office suite, Home and Student version for making documents. Sorry my error in my rush for answers. Thanks.

all the answers you need are posted in this thread already (or via a link to other threads).
For a little clarification:
i assume when you say "the files transferred into my new computer" you mean that when you open the personal book builder tool you see book covers, author's names, etc. That information is called the metadata... And it DOES sync between computers. What doesn't sync currently is the .docx file AND the actual compiled personal book. If you want to read your personal books, you will need to either recompile OR scan the already compiled file into your new installation of L5. The links needed to explain are posted above.
Here are my thoughts:
- If you know you will NEVER need to adjust anything in the personal book again (including typos, formatting, etc.), then just grab the already compiled files from your other computer. This will take some concentration in reading and extrapolating instructions, but is the fastest way to move a large number of pb's from one computer to another.
- If you might want to change the files, grabbing the .docx files is a MUST. Without them, your pb's are set in cement.

Thank you so very much Alabama24. This is very helpful. Late last night I finally figured out how to get some of the books back in ... I had to "Add New Book" and give it a similar name. I then added the file and navigated to the docs files added them one by one and then" built" the book again. That seemed to work. Now all I have to do is figure out how to delete the old books that are not being read by the new install of Logos 5 and I will be a happy camper. Thanks to all who have been offering their help and wisdom. Blessings, Jan

...but you shouldn't have had to do that. All you needed to do was to recompile the "old" book. Here is an example from my computer. I have not recompiled this file yet, and the .docx file isn't where L5 expects it to be (this is a new installation, just like yours... notice the yellow triangle with exclamation point). If I right click, I can delete the .docx file from the personal book builder tool and then re-add it back with the new location.

All you had to do with the "old books" was Edit them in section 2. Add body files by right-clicking and deleting the files with a yellow triangle and using Add file... to get the docs files in their new location. Then build the books.
Now you can remove the "old books" by compacting/closing them, right-clicking the title and selecting Delete.

By the way, the reason that you are receiving the yellow triangle is because the .docx files aren't where Logos expects them to be. Since you have changed computers, and likely changed the name of your user account (your windows user account... not your Logos one), the path to your .docx files won't be the same.

Hi all - I read this thread and a few linked related ones but couldn't find how to get the personal books on my Windows 8 computer over onto my ipad. Both devices share the same login/account. Any thoughts? Thankyou

The apps on mobile devices don't handle personal books as yet.
