Indexing issue

just spent a couple of hours waiting for Logos to index.  Got one new resource form Vyrso, and when it download that and restarted, it's doing a re-index all from 0% again.

Is something wrong with my system.  It's been going on for some months now...  Just that I refuse to index.  This time I index because the SDA Silver package came through and so I wanted to be able to search.

Can't there be a way to just index the new resource instead of having to do it all over?

This is the normal behavior. Indexer will create an index of the new resource(s) in a supplemental index file and afterwards merge this into the main index file.

The point is that if you don't let the indexer run till the end, it will need to restart. Since you need an index in Logos, it is much more apprtopriate to let it run overnight (with automatic updates off).

Since you now have a current index, the behavior should be back to normal, i.e. only indexing new resources. Regarding your system, you may post some diagnostic logs for Logos to look at.

One new resource leading to hours of waiting for the indexing to finish. That's not normal. Something's wrong somewhere. It should only be a few minutes.

The same occurred with me last night. It hung my system up all evening. I finally had to restart, run Logos, and allow it to index over night.

This inefficiency has been well documented in other threads and we still await improvements. The workaround is to always have Automatically Download Updates set to NO  and wait until indexing has completed before allowing a new download.

To clarify, with Automatically Download .. set to YES a new download will interrupt current indexing, discarding the results and then start indexing the previous download along with the new one. So restarting at 0% does not mean that ALL your resources are being indexed.

There seems to be something, perhaps specific to Journal for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, Volume 10 (Which seems to get downloaded and updated every few days or weeks) that is initiating a First time indexing after each update (two days ago and again this morning) on more than one computer.

First time indexing is happening to you on more than one computer? That's a huge clue. Support should get a peek at your installations.

    Logs would help diagnose this.

Will do my best to post logs when I get back home. Currently traveling and using only mobile app.
