Background Collection

As i sort through my library, i am attempting to put together a helpful collection of books that aid with Background studies of a text to put me in touch with the culture of the time as well as the historical setting of the passage/book under consideration. Can anyone provide perhaps your suggested collection of books that help you with background study. This would be much appreciated. Thanks

This wiki page contains a number of examples of collections:

Your informant was probably referring to the second video on this page: http://www.logosbiblesoftwaretraining.com/other-videos/preparing-a-sermon-with-logos-4/
