If you eat beans, you'd never be allowed into the company of the Pythagoreans, whose rule included "abstain from beans"

There is some question as to why Pythagoras disfavored the innocent legume. Some think it was because it causes flatulence, which could be a problem when living in community or could disturb one's sleep and peaceful mental state. Others had other interesting explanations. It makes for an amusing study, and one source I found even said this was erroneous, Pythagoras actually loved beans.

When I'm downtown and have nothing with me I eat beans from the store, and at home I eat sauerkraut and turkey or ecological minced beef.
