Word count in Logos books

Hi all,

Is there any way to get a word count for a book in Logos? I'd like to know how many words are in the NA27, for example.

The only way I know how to do it now is by copying and pasting into MS Word, but that's very slow and laborious. This is in Logos 4, by the way.

I don't know of any generally applicable way of doing this.

I'd like to know how many words are in the NA27, for example.

For NA27, though, and for other books with "original language" texts it is possible with some work by using Word Lists and Excel.

As an example, I'll use "John 1" from NA27 (generating the Word List for the whole book would take some time!)

A Word List for this passage appears as shown below:

(I have sorted the display by "count" but this isn't actually necessary)

Then you need to export this to Excel - use the Print / Export option and "Save as file" to Spreadsheet

This gives you a spreadsheet looking like this:

You should then just be able to Sum the Count column and you should have the information you want

However before you can do this you need to convert the Count cells to Number format - they are stored as Text for some reason. But you can change them all at once - example shown below

I know there were some earlier issues in Word Lists (particularly with large ranges). Any particular reason why you haven't upgrade to the free core Logos 5 engine available at https://www.logos.com/install?

I agree with Graham. Absolutely. The Logos software is always free... you pay for the resources (including datasets which power some features). Even if you update and have some new features not available (because you didn't purchase the minimal cross grade or new base package), at least the OLD features will continue to be updated with the new software. This is especially important if you are a mobile users, where some features may require you to be on the newest engine. For example: Logos is working on personal book sync (no time table for release). You will need to have the latest engine for that to work when that feature is released.

By the way, Graham wrote HW & SW. It took me a few seconds to realize that he meant "Hardware" and "Software."

Just to clarify, there is no way to do a wordcount on a book that is not morphologically tagged, correct?

It would be interesting to know how many words Codex Sinaiticus has, for example. Or even to compare Sinaiticus and Bezae in Acts.
