searched for Thomas Manton commentary on James, and found 3 results:

1. The Complete works of Thomas, vol. 4. Part of a series. Maybe I could own it all one day?

2. A Practical Commentary, or An Exposition with Notes on the Epistle of James - different publication than #1, different points of content in description.

3. James: The Crossway Classic Commentaries - seems to be part of a newer translated series? perhaps this would be better, I am of Alister McGrath's work, though I don't want it to be too light.

I'm looking for a commentary that would focus on the message and application, various aspects/arguments of theologians and views, and not so much a focus on the word play and original language.

Any suggestions how to tell which of these is better, or more how they differ? I'm leaning towards #1 right now, but am not sure what I'm purchasing when compared to the others!  Hmm
