Bug: Multiple Monitor refresh/scrolling issues since L4

I have had this issue for a long time, and I started a thread about it and called a long time ago. It will work normally sometimes so it is hard to reproduce at every given moment. I have a personal built computer with the following specs:

i7 860 processor

8GB RAM

Samsung SSD (Windows 8.1/Logos/programs)

3 SATA drives

850 Watt Power Supply

GTX 570 2+ GB RAM (2 LG 23" monitors)

GTX 560 2 GB RAM (2 ASUS 21" monitors)

Those are my current specs, but the same issues have occurred with a SATA HDD as my main drive, different video cards and only one monitor on the secondary, and under Windows 7 and 8. I think it also happened under L4.

The problem is tha tin the main Logos window, there appears to be some sort of refresh issue when all monitors are in use. For instance, I have a main window open with after a homepage passage guide search for John 20, and then I opened my bibles in a floating windows, and I also opened two additional commentaries. My main windows with the commentaries is painfully slow when scrolling. I can scroll, and it may take many seconds for it to actually move, but if I right click on the page it seems to force a refresh. The floated window works without issue. Just a minute ago, I had both windows minimized, and when I maximized them the floated window worked normally, but the main windows was just black. I clicked in on it, and it appeared slowly in parts, as though it could not refresh the entire picture at once.

If I go into resolution and turn off all but one monitor, everything works normally. It will also work for a short time after I reinstate the other three monitors, but it will eventually slow down again. I have been dealing with this for a long time now, and I have never seen anyone else bring this issue up, but I can't be the only one!

Everything is related to this, or at least this is the largest symptom of the problem: An overtaxed video card, or a driver that can't handle it very well. I too once had that issue in L4 or L5 I cannot recall completely. It was solved with a video card and driver upgrade on my desktop which I no longer use. It was solved on my laptop (in use for five years now I think) with an upgraded video card driver.

The problem is that neither one of those cards should have trouble driving the system.

BUT: The screen drawing technology behind L4/L5 is different from almost every other program and it is very finicky IMHO with how it paints the screen.

Dual 22" widescreen Gateway monitors vertical (portrait mode) at 1050x1680,
Ancillary screen HP L1740 at 1280x1024 Landscaped

500 GB HDD / < 200GB free (WEI 5.9)
Windows 7 Professional 64bit - all patches.
Kaspersky Pure 3 up to date

Yes, and I forgot to mention in my original post that I always install the newest drivers. I also considered that it might be taxing the system, but those cards are more than adequate to do what I am asking them to do.

I'm sorry to hear that drivers are not fixing your problem. A quick google search of the forums indicates that you're not alone. Some of the results are as recent as November of '13.

I still suspect WPF/.NET after all this time. One post on Stack Overflow suggested to either:

Re-install the .NET framework - sometimes the installation is corrupt.
Make sure that all the recent Windows Updates are installed.

Beyond those two ideas I am fresh out.

Just in case it helps for us to have logs:

Please enable Logging (http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging ).

Replicate the problem, but do not restart Logos until you've moved or uploaded your logs. (Logos rewrites logs when it starts).

Then upload your logs ( http://wiki.logos.com/Uploading_Logs ) so we can take a look.

This got worse again, and I finally called tech support about it. They are looking through the log files. I have found that if I go through resolution settings and "disconnect" the two monitors on the second video card, then everything works fine on the one card. Obviously that is less than ideal, as I am giving up half of my real estate. Tech support agreed with you TCBlack that it has something to do with .NET framework and drawing the image on the screen.

It shouldn't really make a difference, but I just noticed while looking back at this that I transposed the numbers on the second card. It is actually a GTX650.

A couple suggestions...

1. are you running beta drivers? If so downgrade, if not, it (the beta drivers) might be worth a shot. Also the vendor of the card doesn't always have the latest drivers. For instance one of my cards is an MSI HD 7770, I can get the drivers from AMD or MSI, often AMD has more up to date drivers. If you are using the vendor (msi in my case) drivers, try AMD's, or vice versa (or geforce... I forget which cards you have).
2. reinstalling .net might help also.
3. windows has a memory testing tool for desktop (not gpu memory) ram, might be worth testing that.4. try running SFC (system file checker) Seen weird issues fixed with that on occassion

5. try deleting your .tmp files, could be a corrupt temp file. I would suggest running the disk clean up tool, followed by searching your entire computer for *.tmp. then deleting what turns up.
6. try a different video card, borrow one if you have to, and swap out both of your existing cards one at a time and see if the problem goes away. It could be some sort of memory problem in the video card it self, or it could be an issue with a certain model of card in conjunction with .net.
7. if AMD cards, you might try using AMD Eyefinity. It turns all the cards attached to a single card into one big display. It takes some getting used to, but, is worth a shot (assuming you don't have geforce cards). I am currently using eyefinity and not having any issues (and with a slightly weaker GPU than you have if I remember right).

I had an issue one time using an AMD chipset and Nvidia gpu's. I never did get things to work like I thought they ought to, and I ended up getting a board with an AMD chipset. It solved the problem that I suspect was caused simply by drivers (on board Nvidia gpu) not wanting to play nicely together. Any way, just a thought.

I have used beta drivers before, but I have been having this problem for at least a couple of years, so I just keep updating to the newest Nvidia release, and they release newer versions pretty frequently. I always get them from Nvidia, bypassing EVGA.

Since it only happens in Logos, I am pretty sure that it is not a hardware issue. I also play games, run Sony Vegas Pro, and do other highly intensive tasks without issue.

Yes, you can often times have issues mixing Nvidia/AMD. That's another reason I stick with Nvidia: I don't want to have to upgrade both at one time, so I often upgrade the lowest of the two, but never both, as I would if I changed to AMD.

I played the maxi-multiple game for a while. My setup has evolved into one 22" and a 60" plasma. The plasma was originally added for video. I found the plasma completely useless when a single tile is stretched over the whole screen. (Massive eye strain.) But when multiple tiles are used, it becomes quite readable. It supports 10 or 12 tiles quite comfortably, with room for many more.

While we are techno-geeking, Are you aware of an app called Mouse without borders? It allows you to run several machines with a single keyboard and mouse. Free from Windows Microsoft Garage. ... OOOOPs.[:)]

You may want to try the EVGA drivers, MSI tweaked one of my video cards slightly enough that I am running the stock AMD driver for one, and the MSI driver for the other...

Are both the GPU's from EVGA?

After all your trouble-shooting, you might want to look at BIOS updates for the EVGA cards:

You can only get them from EVGA (or you might hit one on google).

If not, it could truly be a WPF or Logos glitch (esp. since you had tested different configs).

FYI, I usually shut down two monitors via video settings when I use Logos to prevent the issue, but last night and this morning I forgot and have been using all four. I don't know if it was the recent Nvidia update (344.11) or a Logos update, but everything has been working as expected. I am very thankful that this seems to be fixed!
