How could there only be one Eugene Peterson title available for Logos library and none in the Vryso library? I PROTEST! (I also need his works for my thesis so some time i the next month or two would be great! [:)]

(with the exception of "The Message" of course)

Surprising, isn't it? I doubt that is his doing because I see his works available in lots of other places.  Maybe Rosie can help put it on a fast track. I understand he was her professor.

I would have thought it was his publishers (Harper and Eerdmanns) who controlled his works. please Bob, please!!! [:)]

I am not trying to be mean or anything but Eugene Peterson for a thesis? Seriously? I just mean that he does not exactly put out scholarly work.

Besides The Message and The Contemplative Pastor there is also a chapter by him in Weddings, Funerals, and Special Events. And in pre-pub, there is his volume on First and Second Samuel in the Westminster Bible Companion Series.

But I agree. We need more Eugene Peterson books! All of these ones are available in Kindle, and Logos ought to be able to do even better than that, as he's written many others:

    • The Pastor: A Memoir
    • Eat This Book: A Conversation in the Art of Spiritual Reading
    • Run with the Horses: The Quest for Life at Its Best (based on the prophet Jeremiah)
    • Practice Resurrection: A Conversation on Growing Up in Christ
    • Working the Angles: The Shape of Pastoral Integrity
    • The Jesus Way: A Conversation on the Ways That Jesus Is the Way
    • Under the Unpredictable Plant: An Exploration in Vocational Holiness
    • Five Smooth Stones for Pastoral Work
    • Tell It Slant: A Conversation on the Language of Jesus in His Stories and Prayers
    • Living the Resurrection: The Risen Christ in an Everyday Life
    • Take and Read: Spiritual Reading: An Annotated List (this could have links to all the books that Peterson recommends which are available in Logos)
    • Like Dew Your Youth: Growing Up With Your Teenager
    • Subversive Spirituality
    • Where Your Treasure is: Psalms That Summon You from Self to Community

Others of his which I'd love to see in Logos:

    • A Long Obedience in the Same Direction: Discipleship in an Instant Society
    • Leap Over a Wall : Earthy Spirituality for Everyday Christians (based on the life of David)
    • Answering God: The Psalms as Tools for Prayer
    • Reversed Thunder: The Revelation of John and the Praying Imagination
    • Christ Plays in Ten Thousand Places: A Conversation in Spiritual Theology
    • Traveling Light: Modern Meditations on St. Paul's Letter of Freedom (Galatians)
    • The Wisdom of Each Other: A Conversation Between Spiritual Friends
    • The Christmas Troll: Sometimes God's Best Gifts Are the Most Unexpected (children's book)

Maybe Rosie can help put it on a fast track. I understand he was her professor.

I wish. Gordon Fee was one of my professors too, but I have no sway over a Gordon Fee collection which people have been asking for (here and here and here). I doubt even Eugene or Gordon could make it happen if they were to call Bob Pritchett up in person. I was one of the contributors to the Encyclopedia of Christian Literature, and so far I have not had any clout in getting that to come out in Logos format.

By the way, I've been tagging all my books that are by any of my former professors (or have a chapter by one of them) as RegentProf. I've now got 43 books in my library which are entirely by or have significant contributions by my profs. It's great!

Hey, that made me think of a cool idea. Logos should give us the ability to make recommended books lists, like on Amazon.com. I could create a Rosie's Professors list. [:)]

Oh, come on. John Newton and Beatrix Potter weren't scholarly either, but people have done theses on them. It's the study of a person (and scholarly work written about that person) that makes it worthy of a thesis, not necessarily the work that person produced. I might question whether Eugene Peterson has had enough scholarly work written about him, since he's still living, but not whether he's worthy of writing a thesis on. He's had a major impact on evangelicalism of the late 20th century and first decade of the 21st, so he's quite an interesting figure to study. Maybe in about 20 or 30 years, though, to see whether his impact lasts.

That is justification enough, whether or not you agree with his approach or appreciate his works. There are lots of others who would not be considered scholarly but would certainly merit a closer evaluation.

De Haan comes to mind. M. R. De Haan Classic Library

I didn't consider the fact that the thesis was on Peterson, I thought he just wanted to use him as a source or two.

Could be. I didn't want to make assumptions either way. Prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt.

    Rosie,

Couldn't (shouldn't?) some of the more devotional titles be in Vyrso rather than in Logos?

Sure, it doesn't matter to me. They all end up in my Library in the end, so I don't care how Logos publishes them. We just supply them with suggestions of books we want, and Logos makes the decision as to whether they're eBooks or Logos editions.

Forgive me if this come across a tad grumpy but I find your comment arrogant.

I am a pastor therefore the works of Peterson are incredibly valuable to what I do and my thesis. The thesis is on Peterson's pastoral theology within a contemporary ministry context and is only Masters level. His writings fall into both pastoral and spiritual theology and are incredibly important in light of the high level of pastoral burnout and ministry fallout rates.

Honestly, I never get tired of this sought of comment!

Three cheers for you! That sounds like a study well worth doing. I have shared Peterson's work (specifically his chapter on "The Unbusy Pastor" from The Contemplative Pastor, with the pastors in my ministerial association, since many of them are over-tired, feel over-worked, and are at great risk of burnout. Peterson is a great antidote to that.

I'll never forget the first time I heard Peterson's Contemplative Pastor quoted from the pulpit.  The mixture of the truth and Peterson's rhythmic writing style was inspiring.

Five Smooth Stones for Pastoral Work

    Just bumping this old thread[:)]

I've just finished reading through this book - required reading for a Master's module - and found it very helpful.

Making notes on it was a challenge - it is a paper copy I have borrowed from someone else - and it would have been much better to be able to read, take notes and highlight in Logos.

Any update as to any progress on this and other Eugene Peterson's works?

    Thanks, Graham

Just curious: what is this the red square containing a white star under the face picture of Paul and Graham?

And who have not subsequently resigned from that position, as at least a couple regular forum readers have.

Good to know, and as I see it, the Logos forum MVPs have been very helpful: I learn a lot when they answer the questions of the users (mine or somebody else's questions).

I also tried to check the acronym MVP, and it seems to mean "most valuable professional" or "most vandalizing person" or anything between [:D]
