Metzger quotes

I''m looking for the source of two quotes about Colossians 1:1&2, specifically, "The Textus Receptus and Byzantine Majority Text reads =Ihsou: Cristou: here." and "The Textus Receptus and Byzantine Majority Text both add and the Lord Jesus Christ at the end of this verse. The same addition is found also in other witnesses with a second hJmw:n added to kurivou, standing before or after =Ihsou: Cristou:. The words, which are absent from a variety of witnesses, some of them early, have no doubt been added by copyists who assimilated the texts to Pauline usage. There is no apparent reason for deliberate omission (Metzger)."

My guess is that they came from Metzger's 'A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament' but they are not from the 2nd edition which Logos has now. Did we have a copy of his first edition at one time that's been replaced by the 2nd?

This seems unlikely to me since the second edition copyright date is 1994.

Is it possible your quotes were actually paraphrases of what you discovered in his comments?

After the pronoun ἡμῶν, the Textus Receptus, along with the witnesses listed in UBS4, adds καὶ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ (and the Lord Jesus Christ). The same addition is found also in other witnesses with a second ἡμῶν (our) added to κυρίου (Lord), standing before or after Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ. The words, which are absent from a variety of witnesses, some of them early, have no doubt been added by copyists who changed the text to agree with Pauline usage elsewhere (Rom 1:7; 1 Cor 1:3; 2 Cor 1:2; Gal 1:3; Phil 1:2; 2 Thess 1:2; Phlm 3). Certainly there seems to be no reason for deliberate omission if the words were original.

After ἡμῶν the Textus Receptus adds καὶ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, with א A C G I 88 614 Byz Lect al; the same addition is found also in other witnesses with a second ἡμῶν added to κυρίου, standing before or after Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ. The words, which are absent from a variety of witnesses, some of them early (B D K Ψ 33 81 1739 itar, d, mon vg syrp, h copsa arm ethro), have no doubt been added by copyists who assimilated the text to Pauline usage; certainly no reason for deliberate omission suggests itself.

Textual criticism leads me to believe in a common source, most probably Metzger's First Edition (the electronic source predating unicode for Greek text, thus either an early Logos edition or another bible software which may still carry the old version)

Yeah. I went back and checked my orders, and it was the first one I ever ordered. It's on a CD and is in fact the second edition.

Is it possible your quotes were actually paraphrases of what you discovered in his comments?

It just doesn't sound like something I would write that way. It could be from a hard-cover but I can't think of what it would be that I might have. Anyway, thanks for your input.
