I won't be pondering much longer about commentaries on this middle-part of Lk, (maybe just a couple of days). Studies start somewhat soon (end of August) and during the studies (at least during these two semesters in seminary) I won't have time to invest in choosing books.
I looked at which commentaries focus on this part of Lk and didn't find many. Of course there's lots that cover the entire Gospel of Luke.
Is there anyone with an opinion on Darrell L. Bock? - what's unfortunate is that I wont afford the best commentaries at the moment - I really have to save for other things - hopefully I'll be able to save enough to buy the NIB set. I know Bovon in Hermeneia is better than Bock in Baker but I can't afford Bovon for that middle-part of Lk right now (Lk volume 2) - I used to have it (from pre-pub) though until I swapped it for Accordance lexicons. Bock seems like a low-budget option for the middle-part of Lk. Is it important to have an as updated commentary as possible for the middle-part of Lk? Many years from now I will re-purchase Bovon but I think I will need something in the meanwhile.
Two posts with positive opinions on Bock: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/42230/314678.aspx#314678 http://community.logos.com/forums/p/40085/299388.aspx#299388
(I have for example AYBC NT and UBS Handbooks NT in Accordance (as well as the UBS Handbooks Upgrade in Logos).) I don't have that many Lk commentaries, actually, especially not ones that I would have started to use. I think I have summaries and brief devotionals on Lk covered though.
Of course it would have been fascinating to wait for new commentaries that utilize the Green collection manuscript but as I think that'll take quite a while I guess I rather have something meanwhile.
