Mac Question - scan

HI all,

Playing around with getting Verbum latest beta running on a Macbook Pro. I have been following the instructions to do "Quick Installation onto Multiple Macs", and I am stuck on getting the scan to work. I have Verbum up. I copied my resources folder onto a USB drive with volume name VERBUM. I do a

Scan /Volume/VERBUM/Resources (resources folder is in the root of the USB drive)

I verified the scan path was added in the log file.

When I restart, it says Preparing Library, but only for about a second - and then when Verbum comes up, I have 0 resources still. It's like it does not see the resources.

Any ideas?

When I switched from Logos to verbum I manually moved the files without issue. You might located the resource folder and place them there...

Thanks Dan, not sure what you are saying though. This MBP is new and has not had Logos or Verbum on it. I am trying to get my resources on it by scanning from a USB drive.

I have also tried scan /Users/awalt/desktop/Resources as I copied the folder there

I tried scan /Users/awalt/desktop/Resources/

and I tried

scan /Users/awalt/Desktop as I copied just one .logos4 file there.

None of them work.

I see Verbum identify the scan command below where I am typing, so I know the syntax is correct (otherwise it says Search for....)

What am I doing wrong, or does scan not work on the Mac?

AFTER you have run Verbum for the first time and logged in. Quit. then go to your users Library folder... (you get there via finder under the GO menu holding the option key down). VOLUME NAME/Users/awalt/Library/Application Support//Resources/Verbum/Data/RANDOMAPLAHNUMERIC/REsourcemanager/Resources/

Place the resources there and then restart verbum it should begin indexing.

Thanks Dan. I didn't think that was a good thing to do, on Windows anyway, but I tried it - copied all my Resources into the resource folder. I Have run it several times prior, the folder structure looked good

I started Verbum, and no index started. Library still said 0. So I did a Rebuild Index, the yellow bar came up for less than a second and went away.

Is the problem that I am trying to use resource files from a Windows computer, are they different format and I should just go download them all? If so, I have some old ones not on the server - how do I get those?

One folder up is

/Library/Application%20Support/Verbum/Data/7efmfdn8.ug3/ResourceManager/ResourceManager.db

/Library/Application%20Support/Verbum/Data/7efmfdn8.ug3/ResourceManager/ResourceManager.db-journal

Might need to be deleted to force Verbum to update. (I have needed in the past to delete certain .db files. Beyond this I am virtually out of ideas...

When I delete those two files Verbum won't start - the V icon just bounces and I have to d a Force Quit. Twice I restored the two files, it opens - moved them to trash, it would not. I don't think this is the answer :-)

Scan copies licensed resources. If have no licenses in LicenseManager folder, then nothing will be copied during scan.

If size of download is no problem financially then I recommend keeping it simple. Start the download in the late evening, go to bed with one of those real books from up in the attic and let the machine do its business. Just make sure that you disable automatic sleeping.

Productive time and worry wise you will be on a winner and you will not have concerns about things ending up in the wrong place.

Thanks Mike, I was thinking of that, but the d/l is 46 GB for me, which could be an issue as Comcast does have some sort of quota. I just can't understand why Scan does not work.

did you read KS4J post very carefully? I think he was telling you where to put your files. I don't think you can scan from the thumb drive.

alabama, I did read it carefully - I tried both from the thumb drive and the other location off the desktop, described on the wiki too.

HERE IS THE CONCLUSION - I was searching through the forums, and I found ONE POST by Dave Hooton saying be sure to restart the Mac then start it up. I tried that, and it then worked - found all the files in the folder off my desktop! (Thanks Dave!)

THIS IS NOT DOCUMENTED ANYWHERE NOR IS IT REQUIRED ON THE WINDOWS VERSION. Frankly, to me I consider it a bug but others may disagree At a minimum, it is an obscure point not easy to find that cost me a lot of time!

Licenses are updated before starting download. If Verbum or Logos has not updated resource licenses in LicenseManager folder by syncing with Faithlife servers (or copying from another installation), then scan copies nothing.

I don't think you can scan from the thumb drive.

Apologies: personally not know about scanning a thumb drive; have used scan in OS X to copy resources from a Windows file share. Also have copied folders from USB drive when wanted to avoid resource download and indexing.

Hello, I managed to overcome the same problem by moving the Resources folder to the new computer as you had. Turning on the internet facility and auto download. Closing Verbum. Restarting the Mac. Opening Verbum, allowing it to download 1% (of what was by now already in the folder). Stopping the download after 1%. Closing Verbum. Restarting the Mac again. Opening Verbum, and hey presto, it starts indexing. Hope that helps.
