I would recommend as much ram as you can afford, and Ssd. The last one really makes a difference.
I haven't updated recently, but sure enough to say that you should go for the latest i7 with at least 8GB of RAM and either an SSD or hybrid hard drive that uses an SSD for frequently needed work. I have last year's version on a Lenovo U410 and it really flies with the hybrid. Lenovo has a very good website and regular discounts, so I suggest that.
You can do the same with a MacBook Pro, but it's a bit expensive. Worth it to be sure, but not everyone wants to drop a grand or more on laptop.
I find the Surface Pro to be a great way to get the whole Logos experience on a Tablet (with pen and keyboard) form factor.

The best thing you can do to improve Logos performance is an SSD, and it's not even close. The limiting factor for speed is often how quickly your computer can retrieve things from the hard drive. If you've run Logos on a spinning drive, you'll do backflips the first time you run a search on an SSD.

Logos 5 and Verbum are resource intensive applications that benefit from Solid State Disk (SSD), fast Processor (e.g. Intel i7), adequate Memory, and speedy Graphics. Newer games are also resource intensive so a laptop for gaming works well with Logos 5 and Verbum.
Logos 5.2b is 32 bit application. Logos 5.3 will be a 64 bit application that can use more memory.

He speaks truth. I just did that this weekend after installing my first SSD and running Logos 5 for the first time on my new laptop. Makes me excited to use Bible software again!

I would suggest a feature which is not really related to Logos, but I find very important. My work laptop is a Dell with a back-lit keyboard. It is REALLY useful. My home machines have standard keyboards and I am always trying to find a light source in order to work.
AJ, this is the machine I just picked up over the weekend. I got it from best buy for a few hundred cheaper than Dell's list price. I also bought a 250gb SSD to replace the hard drive that was in there. Logos really flies and it's a quiet machine.

Two things without knowing your total Logos library size or the detail of your current system, one option if you are limited on cash would be to only replace your current laptops hdd with a 256GB or 512GB SSD this would give new life to your old laptop.
If you have the money and want a better new system, I would say like many others get the most system your money can buy at the time. Any system Ram, Video, SSD is a must have, and either i5 or i7.
I always like to buy a little more than what I have to have when getting a new computer. But for me the next laptop will be a Mac not a PC.
I have never had a Mac, but wife said she thinks I should get one and she is going to allow the needed $$$ for it. So I will get either the Macbook Pro 13 or 15. I want one with 16GB ram 512GB SSD, and the Retina display.
Also Apple has certified refurbished Mac's which if you buy give you a higher level system at a discount.
For me after i upgraded my current laptop which is a intel i3 with a 256GB SSD Logos & windows run so much faster.
Last night i added the pulpit commentary and indexed it in about 2 min.

Last November, I bought my first Mac ever - a 13in MacBook Pro, Retina, i5, 8gb RAM, 256 gb SSD - for about $1400 (which is about what a Surface Pro with comparable specs with a Type Cover would cost). Small enough to actually use on one's lap, but more than adequate for Logos and all my other needs. No doubt, a refurbished one would be cheaper. There are certainly less expensive options out there that would do a good job with Logos. But I'm very pleased with my first Mac.
I have a 2013 Macbook Pro and love it! Prior to that I had a 2010 Macbook Pro that I upgraded the HDD to an SSD. You can really feel the difference in Logos 5 with the SSD, and it was only a $150 upgrade.
I have a MacBook Air with SSD. Even though it is now a couple of years old, it still flies![:D]

If you want a laptop that acts as an occasional tablet, then I'd recommend the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. If you want a tablet that can act as an occasional laptop, then I'd second the Surface Pro.
I personally use a Yoga 2 Pro for Logos...I prefer the traditional laptop arrangement since Logos 5 is designed for and works better with the traditional keyboard and mouse arrangement. That may change if Logos 6 is ultimately optimized for tablet use, but for now it's hard to beat the Yoga.
The answer will be different for different folks, but as for me and my house:
Surface Pro 2 or 3 - Hands down! I love it..
A.J. I agree with everyone else, get a computer with an SSD for Logos and you'll be pleasantly surprised and happy with the performance.
All I did was change out my HD for an SSD on my 2008 Macbook Pro (non-unibody) and it is really quite quick, may not be as quick (I know it is not) as a 2014 MB or equivalent PC but it does run so much smoother. This oldie only has 4gb of Ram but it does the job and it must until seminary is done. Oh, my library is around 3,250 books and climbing.

I am considering purchasing either this ultrabook or the Samsung - both of which have the same resolution - but I am concerned that the scaling may not be optimized with Logos 5 and look poor on their screens. What do you think...what has your experience been? Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I keep mine at 250% at maximum resolution...works great.
There is no need to spend much on a laptop for logos. Just spend around $500 and by max $800. Acer Aspire 5 is one of the ideal choice. You can also look for ASUS Vivobook 15, Lenovo Flex 14 and similar ones.
I would agree with others on this thread. The top requirements, in my opinion, are the memory, hard drive speed, and graphics card.
I bought a top-end Surface Pro and love it for Logos. The form factor is perfect for mobility, and with Duet, I can use my iPad as a second monitor. Granted, a Surface is expensive, and you definitely don't need to spend as much money as you will spend on a Surface to get a good Logos laptop.
