Indexing problems - Mac

I'm running 5.2b (5.2.2.1489) on a Mac with OSX 10.9.4. After every single update or resource added, Logos is running First-time indexing. I've already tried rebuilding the index. It ran to completion last night, but when I added new resources this morning it started all over again.

Welcome to the forums. Anytime you add a new resource, Logos will index it. Rebuilding will take some time as you have indicated, subsequent indexes should be much shorter. Make sure that Logos has finished one index before starting another, or it will cause a corrupted index, and force you to rebuild the index.

The next time this happens, time the index and see how long it takes. Post your logs and it maybe easier to see what the problem is.

As I noted in my original post: It is running "First-time Indexing" every time I add a resource, not the normal index update. I'm not running multiple indexes at a time.

Your indexer log contains some entries of the form:

"SQLite Error 28: multiple links to file"

We see these reported from time to time but I have never seen an explanation as to what it means.

I talked to Tech Support, that is an unrelated error from awhile ago. Something to do with the Library Catalog. I'm just going to let it finish indexing again and see what happens.

I would tend to go back to them and ask for some more information as this seems to be happening on your system now.

And it is possible - but I don't know - that this issue is what is causing the continual reindex

I probably will. The person I talked to was convinced this indexing is just a supplemental index, but I really doubt that, as it has been going for an hour and is only at 16%.

It may be, but the indexer logs you supplied are old/incomplete and the only way to know what is happening is to kill/stop the indexing, properly enable logging and then restart Logos. Let indexing go for about 1 hour and then go back to Tech Support.

I have the same Problem with my Logos 5 Windows-Installation. The situation startet when I unhided the whole Perseus-Collection on 12th August. After this process, the Indexing started all over again and again and again. Therefore, I informed Logos and asked for help. I am impressed by the early and competent reply. [:)] Mark Bryant from LogosBugs@Logos.com gave me some explanations and asked me to send the Logos Log File, if I could not settle the problem alone. But I was not able to help myself. So I sent the file and am waiting for his further ideas and instruction.

My problem appears to have ceased for the moment. After looking through several files on my computer, the technician just had me reindex again, hoping to diagnose the problem. However, it seems, at least for the moment, that this time the reindexing worked. I'll have to give it a few days to make sure, but I still have no idea what caused it to keep indexing before. Something is taking up extra hard drive space though. Indexing took up 10 GB of my free hard drive space even though the Index files only add up to about 5GB. The logs don't seem to show anything strange.

I know that Logos always seems to take around 10GB of scratch space on the Hard Drive when indexing.. I find this very annoying but have learned to live with it... It should not be an issue for me anymore since I killed off my Parallels XP virtual machine, but I can tell you more than once I would get indexing ceased because it ran out of disk space.

PS: If you computer is older one hour may be quite standard to do indexing. Even on a fast computer reindexing everything can take over a day... When I switch from Logos to Verbum a complete reindex happened on my i7 2.3 Ghz (4 core Ivy Brigde) MBP. And if my memory serves it took around 7 hours to build the initial index. For me after a resource is added theses days 5-30 minutes seems to be average indexing time.

Logos will automatically restart indexing if it detects a problem with index files. Keep logging enabled so you have a complete set of logs should the problem happen again.

Thank you Dave! The indexing problem is not yet solved. The search-engine doesn´t go through my library and the personal books. It shows results in the dictionaries, the logos-tools etc., but it´s obvious that there is an annoying bug. I hope that logos will have a clue, how to handle this issue.If they don´t have a solution, I will come back and ask for the expertise of the forum. I am very grateful for this support.
