Logos 5 Light Install

Hi,
I hope I'm not repeating previous requests. I've read many of the posts concerning running Logos 5 on Atom-based tablets, and the consensus seems to be it is very slow. It would be nice if there was an option to install a "light" version of Logos that is preconfigured to only download a small, essential subset of the library resources.Ideally, there would be an option to add extra library resources if needed.
Thanks for listening.

Logos has been very reluctant to this suggestion in the past... I don't think it will happen. It would be nice. [Y]
At this point, your best bet is the windows 8 app (which is very basic) and/or biblia.com.

Indexing is (very) slow. Startup is faster than an older (6 years) single-core CPU computer but slower than a modern dual-core. General use is acceptable to OK! ----> I'm talking about recent multi-core Atoms.

That describes the app you get on Android and iOS devices!
A 'lite' option for Windows/Mac tablets has been discussed but there are some formidable obstacles when it comes to sync'ing (e.g. layouts) and management of server downloads.
If disk space is not an issue you can use an installation procedure (Method 2) that avoids downloading and indexing, but Method 3 is OK as long as you allow sufficient time for the initial indexing.
If space is an issue you can use Method 3 on a subset of your resources and manually update the software and resources from another (full) installation (any server download will attempt to restore the missing resources). I can supply more details if necessary.

I am confused by your comments. Do you possibly refer to the RT App? As I understand, That only works on RT tablets. The only "Windows 8 app" I am aware of is the same app used on PCs. My W8 tablet uses the same software as my PC. But is not compatible with the RT (Strpped down) app.alabama24 said:At this point, your best bet is the windows 8 app (which is very basic) and/or biblia.com.

I know very little about windows. I know that Logos has a windows 8 app, and that it runs on "RT". Does that not also run on "real" windows 8? What is an "atom processor"? Is that an RT device?

The Logos 5 desktop application (which you're probably all familiar with) runs on Windows 8.
The Bible! app in the Windows Store runs on Windows RT (including ARM) and also Windows 8 (you can get it through the Store icon on your Start Screen). (As noted in the Windows Store App forum, we are not actively improving it.)

Thanks for that info.Bradley Grainger (Logos) said:Paul C said:I am confused by your comments. Do you possibly refer to the RT App? As I understand, That only works on RT tablets. The only "Windows 8 app" I am aware of is the same app used on PCs.

It sure would be nice if we could have a forum dedicated to those of us who use the Logos 5 desktop app in a pen/touch/tablet environment.
It is a challenge, deciding the best way to work-around the absence of pen/touch enhancements. It would be nice to have input from other tablet users.[:)]

If you are at liberty to say (Bradley) will L6 support touch screens and pen?
Another suggestion: Make it easy to switch from full Logos to full Verbum with just a simple switch that we have now in L5. Set Verbum to Yes/No.

That suggestion is being tracked here: http://logos.uservoice.com/forums/42823-logos-bible-software-5/suggestions/619605-focus-on-tablet-and-touchscreen-features

I'm not sure what you're asking for here, sorry.

Thank you everyone for the feedback. I am familiar with, and use, the RT application, but it is not exceedingly helpful for Greek word studies and interlinear work. The full version of Logos, however, excels in those things. The problem is I have 6,000 resources. I'd like a very light install, that won't bog down an Atom processor on an ASUS Vivotab running Windows 8.1. I'm just looking to install the Logos application, the underlying Logos databases, a good commentary series, one good dictionary, a few key Bible versions, and the stuff needed to enable Greek word studies. In other words -- a "Light Install" of the essentials. The goal is to do interlinear work, save space and enhance performance, and shed off elements not essential to those goals. Thanks! Tim

I understand what you are asking for - totally.
Too bad there are no lighter, cheaper, powerful, thin, temperature cool, tablets to do precisely what you are asking.

If you have an SD card, you can do this Timothy. Just choose the resources you'd like out of your resource folder or your desktop and put them on the card. Then when you install Logos on your tablet make sure to turn off automatic updates. Once you get into the program with no resources, use the scan command to scan the folder you specify on the SD card. Should work fine.
I would like to add that installing logos on a 64GB SD card and running it off of there allowed me to run Logos at an acceptable speed with my entire library. YMMV.

Tim,
I had my full library of 4,000 resources installed along with the Logos program on a 64 GB class 10 microSD card on my Asus Vivotab Note. I was surprised that the Baytrail, Atom-based processor, 2 GB of RAM, and microSD installation of Logos ran so well. I accepted the fact that this installation on an 8-inch tablet was not intended to replace my desktop. That said, this installation allowed me to do everything I wanted to do. I was able to highlight with the Wacom-based digitizer and stylus. Scrolling windows with my finger worked very well. Installing updates and indexing took longer, of course.
You say you have an Asus Vivotab runnning Windows 8.1. Does your tablet have the current Baytrail Atom processor in it or is it the previous version?

Thanks Bill, I shall give it a whirl. I'm not sure which Atom version my Vivotab is using. Kindly,
Tim

Thanks Tanner. I'll give it a try tonight. Kindly,

Hmmm ... am I hearing Libby's siren sound?? Ah yes, sync'ing Libby is so easy these days (you can't). And you can select just the resources you need too!!
Plus it's lightning fast. On an atom.
