Time for a Baptist Subforum?

I noticed most of the other theological groups have their own subforum. Some of them launched along with their base package, or leading up to the launch.

Just wondering if anyone else thought maybe its time for their to be a baptist area of the site?

I heard they were afraid if they made a baptist sub forum, we'd all only congregate there and then would be convinced we are the only ones on the forum.

Like that old joke about the non-denominational guy that dies and goes to heaven. Peter tells him he has to pick a denomination, and offers to show him around.

The first room was pentecostals, they were boisterous in their praise - waiving flags, and performing skits and interpretive dance all to glorify God. But this didn't seem like a good fit to our non-denominational friend, so peter took him to the next room. It was a liturgical tradition, and had a lot of symbolism, was quiet and respectful. But this too wasn't the right fit for our friend. So peter says before I take you into this third room you have to be really quiet. "Why is that" asked our friend.

To which peter replied," its the baptist room - they think they are the only ones up here".

Baptist pastor here as well. but I have to go now, or I won't beat the Methodists to lunch.

You're right we never beat the methodists to lunch, but we do joke about it once in a while.

We have it for individual forums, but not for the whole shebang. I participate in about 1/3 of the forums. I would like a button to mark all other read without having to click multiple times.

Hmmm you could make your self a folder in your bookmarks, one book mark for each forum. then when you want to mark all as read, right click the folder of bookmarks and "open all in tabs".

Also - just got word about David Platt's appointment to be the head of the IMB. Platt has been deeply influential in my life and preaching, is a friend of the seminary I attend, and preaches here often. Praising God for the right man at the right time.

It is easier to simply click "Mark Forum Read" from the Forum Home Page for each unused forum.

perhaps initially it would be more work Jack, but in the long run you'll save your self steps, and perhaps find your self less opposed to huge traditions having their own home on the forum.

That will open all forums, but it will not mark each post as read without clicking the link for each forum.

The other traditions use their subforum as a way to bring attention to tradition specific resources, and to bring their denomination rep's attention to specific resources that the community wants but doesn't have.

Fredc, I will be State side maybe sometime in March - May, a potluck with the Church family would be a great day! I have been in the field 3 years now.

Oh and we May not beat the Methodists to lunch, but I though we let them eat first so that could then get to the main course, some of Mom's fried chicken comes to mind now and homemade cookies and don't forget that sweet tea.

that sounds ok to me also. I don't see any problems with a catholic forum here. We have an SDA forum, and one for noet. Why not Baptist and Catholic?

The are an interesting group. They might say their depravity is total, but that inspite of your past your membership to the group is guaranteed, though not for everyone - just those already selected. It is an offer you can't refuse, and once selected its a state that persists. Some even go so far as to say that if you were not included in the group, you were not only not chosen for the positive group, but instead you were also chosen (tacitly or otherwise) to be a part of the negative experience group. A condition and selection that is also persistent.

Further since they are Baptist, they might argue that they continued doing what the other reformers were doing, and even may argue they completed it in baptism by submersion.

That may mean we are better off asking for a southern baptist forum... 16m members of the SBC... probably the largest block of users in the broader baptist tradition.

No. The logic would suggest a smaller group. Someone like Free-Will Baptist or IFB.

Maybe the Independent fundamentalists then, or Primitive Baptists (do the primitives use computers?).

Or even better, a Reformed Baptist forum.

All I know is lifeway, and by extension the seminaries are going to be pushing us hard to use their new bible software. Be a good idea to reach out to the others before they are locked into something different.

I hate to break your bubble, but the Russian Orthodox Church alone is 1.5 times bigger than all Baptist churches together. And the Orthodox still got a forum.[;)]
