Android Suite 4.4.1 Beta Release

The Android team is pleased to announce the 4.4.1 beta release of the Bible, Biblia, FSB, Noet, Verbum and Vyrso apps.
If you have not yet signed up for the beta (or if you have not yet switched to downloading the betas via the Google Play store), we encourage you to do so! Instructions are here: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/59519.aspx
If you are already signed up for the beta via Google Play, you will automatically receive the beta update over the next few hours. If your device does not provide access to the Google Play store (e.g. the Kindle Fire), you may manually download the latest APK using the direct download links at the bottom of this page: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/59519.aspx
If you discover any issues please create a new post and include the following info:
- Description – How were you using the app when the problem occurred.
- App Info – Which app you are using. (Bible, Biblia, Faithlife Study Bible, Noet, Verbum or Vyrso)
- Device Info – (Nexus 7, Motorola Triumph, Droid Bionic, Kindle Fire (1st gen))
- Android Version – (2.3, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4)
Included are the necessary beta download and Google Play beta tester opt-in links. The Google Play beta opt-in links are only accessible if you have previously been accepted to the Logos Android Beta Users Google+ community.
Important Notes
- This beta requires Android 4.0 or higher.
- This beta includes Faithlife account integration with the Android system providing single sign in across Reader Suite apps. Single sign in support for our other Android apps (Faithlife Mobile, Every Day Bible) is planned for the future, but not available yet.
- There are several new permissions added in this release, all related to single sign in. Note that adding new permissions prevents automatic updates from Google Play; you must explicitly accept the new permission changes to receive this update.

Biblia 4.4.1 (Build 320) - [Direct beta download page] - [Google Play Beta opt-in page]

The release notes mention single sign in, but some of you may not know what that means, so here's a more detailed explanation.
First thing you'll notice is a few new permissions (the screen you see will look different if you update from Google Play):
All of these permissions are needed for the new single sign in feature and are only used to modify "Faithlife" accounts on the system. None of your other accounts (Google, etc) are used by our code (in fact, you would see a very obvious alert if we tried to access any of your other accounts).
When you update to the new beta, we will add your account as a special "Faithlife" account type in the Android account system on your device. If you check the "Settings" screen on your device, you should see something like this:
When you tap on "Faithlife", you'll see something like this (obviously with your email address):
Note that while, this screen says "Sync", it's not actually related to your sync data...that's just what Android chooses to put there. [:)]
If you install a second Reader Suite app (in my example, Vyrso), when you tap the sign in button, instead of seeing the normal sign in form, you'll see this:
If you tap your existing account, you'll be immediately logged in and won't need to enter your email and password again. Tapping "Use a different account", the normal sign in form will appear and you can add a different account. If you DO add a second account, the system settings screen will look a bit different:
Here, the system tells us that "Sync is OFF", but that isn't true. We have not currently integrated with Android's sync system, so Android thinks there is nothing to sync and gives this message. You don't need to worry, your data will still sync properly. [:)]
Clicking on one of the accounts listed here will give you the same screen we saw earlier:
I think that about wraps it up! If you have any more questions about the feature, please feel free to ask!

Drew,
With single sign on, will the apps share resource downloads? Right now I have some bibles downloaded 3x. Once in Bible, a second time in Vyrso, and a 3rd time in Faithlife.

Hello,
They're is a glitch in the single sign in action, it continuously asks me to sign in disrupting my study. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Note, Android. The app is the logos Bible.

In the meantime is there something I can do to avoid that continuous interruption? Possibly download the previous version?

Julius, are you sure you're logging into the same account you were using previously? That's the first thing to check. Also, if you are able to get to the "Help" screen and click "Send Support Info", you could send me your log data (add a CC to "drew DOT hannay AT logos DOT com")
As as last resort, you should be able to uninstall and reinstall the beta, but ideally we'll be able to figure out what the problem is before you do that so we can fix it.

No, not yet. This is something we've thought about, but haven't come up with a good solution yet. However, any possible solution I can conceive of requires this single sign in feature as a prerequisite, so it's a good first step. [:)]

Hello Drew,
Yes I'm sure about the log in. I did send you the log data, hopefully that helps and this issue can be resolved.

Question: is the sign-on info stored or cached in plaintext?

Great! I hope the implementation is secure. Thank you! [:)]

Hello,
For some reason, the Play Store is not allowing me to update to 4.4.1 (Nexus 10 - Android 4.4.4 & Moto X - Android 4.4.3).
Last night, I updated the Nexus 10 from 4.3.7 to 4.3.8 (Bible, Noet, Faithlife Study Bible & Vyrso). The Play Store is showing these as being up to date, so the update to 4.4.1 is not available. I rebooted, but the update is still not available. I double-checked the Beta opt-in pages and confirmed that my status is still "You are a tester".
So, today, I tried the same on the Moto X (Bible, Vyrso). Same result. Updates to 4.3.8, but 4.4.1 is not available.
Apart from the Direct beta download page, is there anything else that needs to be done?
Thanks,
Dan

I'm very sorry to hear you're having problems as well. We are currently building a new version of the app that includes some extra logging to help us figure out what's going on. If you can hold off on reinstalling the app or making any changes until we can get you the new build, that would be extremely helpful to us. I expect the new build to be ready within the next hour.
As a workaround, you may be able to work offline to avoid the sign in popup.

I noticed this as well last night, but I ended up installing it from the direct download link in my rush to figure out the issue users are having. It looks like 4.4.1 has not yet been published to Google Play, so the only way to get it is with the direct download link. I think we're going to hold off publishing to Google Play until we resolve this sign in issue.

JRS and Erwin, can you try installing the app from this link and then send me your log info again?

http://downloads.logos.com/Android/Logos/authtest/Logos-322.apkDidn't work. It appears to login, pauses for a moment (1 sec.), then presents the sign-in screen again.

Yes, all that is new in this build is extra logging information to help us figure out the problem. You'll need to send me your log data so I can see what's happening.

Thanks Drew; I'll try to send the logs. We just left for Wildwood NJ and wifi on the tablet is intermittent while on the road.
