The 'forever' is because the political situation down below is a bit iffy (along with Logos' NA28 apparatus).
I thought, since everyone is twiddling their apparatus thumbs, we could maybe fill-in some time:
1. Search Google 'NA28 apparatus'
Notice how the company that doesn't have one, is listed first. Then notice the companies the DO have it. OliveTree?2. Now turn your time clock back to Dec 2012. Yes, that'd be Daniel Wallace's very tempting blog:
http://danielbwallace.com/2012/12/17/259/Notice how the wise scholar doubted Logos could deliver it before Jesus' coming (ok, so I'm joking).
3. But more seriously, note the key clue from Wallace, as to why Logos is major-ly challenged ... NA28 is in 'di-gi-tal' format. That means 'com-pu-ter-ized'. They're have to type in all that binary code. Wow.
' ... from now on, the Nestle-Aland will not appear only as a printed book, but also in digital form” (48*). This is more than what is already available in the digital copies of the NA27 that are part of the Accordance and Logos Bible software packages. For example, “Abbreviations, sigla and short Latin phrases in the apparatus are explained in pop-up windows. Above all, the digital apparatus becomes a portal opening up the sources of the tradition, as it provides links to full transcriptions and, as far as possible, to images of the manuscripts included” (48*).'
PS: Did you see how Wallace used the phrase 'sources of the tradition'. Maybe that's the issue Logos is having?

Doesn't Logos have the demands on serving the needs of academics? What about NA28 Apparatus?
0 -
If Logos said it would be 6 more months, then at least I would know. I would not be happy, but I would know. But to have no idea when it may be released is a large part of the issue. It's like Waiting for Godot.
Logos, would you just tell us what you can, even if you need to revise the release date later. Information is a courtesy many of us would appreciate.

If you look on the product page it's nearing completion. So it should be up for the new school year.
Right in time for news of the 29th... just kidding....[8-|]

I took an extreme solution. I cancelled.

I wonder if Logos beat you to it.

Any word on the NA28 Apparatus? We should be getting close, I hope.
We are now 16 months after Accordance published theirs.
Logos is very important to me, and I enjoy every day what I can do with it. But this resource needs to get done right away. Is there some new functionality that you are building into it that it would take so long? Tagging the MSS should not take this much time. There is a lot of repetition in the apparatus.

I was casually reading Kent somewhat earlier in the thread:

We're hard at work on this now. We hit some snags on this earlier this year which prevented us from starting as quickly as we would have liked. It will likely be available in January or February. We're now making reservations for our autumn vacation (not to be confused with our late summer vacation). The thought entered my mind .... I wonder if I'll be able to use the NA28 apparatus, looking at the changing leaves. Or the winter snows. Maybe the spring blossoms? Early summer rains?
OK. To help pass the time, here's an interesting NYTimes article:
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/08/13/upshot/where-people-in-each-state-were-born.htmlI thought sure, there wasn't hardlly a US citizen left in Arizona (judging from our legislature).
(Sorry I don't have an equivalent for UK and Europe .... maybe you can read a book or something.)

I am very sorry about the delay in getting this released.
Believe me when I say I'm as excited in getting this out to you as you are in having it.
The resource itself is produced. We're waiting on one thing before we can finally release it. I anticipate that final step being cleared in late-August, early-September.

Will the NA28 in the base package be fully updated? I am trying to interpret the text on https://www.logos.com/product/29980/nestle-aland-greek-new-testament-28th-edition-with-critical-apparatus .

Chomping the bit here, but if it's coming soon that's good enough.

The long delay in this resource's release has baffled me because it is relatively simple to produce. But there is a problem. My guess is that it is not a technical matter, but a legal problem. I expect that this project was completed some time ago, but a licensing issue is delaying the release. Other products have been cancelled or withdrawn in the recent past (Word Commentaries, MacArthur Commentaries, etc.). I bet there is an even chance that we get an email next month that tells us that this resource is no longer available.

I hope not! The value of Logos for academic use depends greatly on a up-to-date edition of the critical texts of the OT and NT, including the critical apparatus.

OK ... we're officially beginning 'late August' this week. 'Early September' will technically be next week.
Well, you DO have to admit the whole thing is mysterious. I have to assume the 'schools' don't use the apparatus (which is the whole point of NA28).
I'm still thinking Logos6, what with loosy-goosy Logos5 updates all the sudden with marjorly nothings (my theory of the 'B' team). Plus of course, Rosie's now MIA, though Australian Dave has been valiently putting out fires. It's tough.
While we're anticipating, notice https://www.logos.com/product/35469/greek-papyri-collection is about to ship. I'm really curious about that one. First, it's costing 2 BurgerKing combos. Yummy! And they're "salvaged from rubble, ancient homes, and tombs." That sounds really intriquing.

If you start with a wrong assumption .... I'm too lazy to go back and find the post but Logos did inform us that some incompatibility between their structure and the structure required for the NA28 apparatus made this anything but simple.

See the answer in this thread: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/73823/515358.aspx#515358
The short answer is that the NA28 will not be updated to include the apparatus.

Thanks very much
I would have been sad to have missed out on ordering the apparatus at pre-pub price! I had missed the other thread.

I'm more excited about UBS5 now. It would be nice if Logos could get it out quickly.

Good news. The final major hurdle has been cleared. I anticipate this being in your hands by the end of the month.
Again, I'm very sorry for the delay. I'm as excited as you are to have this released. (I'm not only a Logos employee. I'm a Logos user.)

Now, don't try to tell us that you liked the product so much that you bought the company. [;)]

Thanks for the update, Kyle. [Y] It'll be nice to finally have the NA28 and CNTTS NT apparatuses in Logos, all in one month no less. I hope to eventually see movement on the BHQ as well.

Thanks Kyle, this is great news.

Kyle,
Can you provide an explination on why the product was held up for so long? Is the wait going to provide added benefit to the end user of Logos that would not be available on other platforms?
Why the hold up?

Assuming the NA28 Apparatus will be published in a few weeks, I am now reevaluating this order against the Center for New Testament Textual Studies (CNTTS Apparatus).
I pre-ordered NA28 Apparatus in January 2013, 20 months ago. And now I may cancel and go with CNTTS instead. Obviously, NA28 has a different methodology than CNTTS, which provides more of a raw data apparatus. But NA28 is the scholarly apparatus of choice.
What are your thoughts about getting one or the other or both?
0 -
My plan at the moment is to get both.
Ive been intrested in CNTTS for several years and would like to have the most recent scholarly standard in the NA28 (giving me the ability to replace my NA27 w/ apparatus as my primary Greek text for the NA28).

I think we're comparing apples from Washington state, with oranges from Florida.
- CNTTS uses specialized groupings to make the analysis easier. So even absent a new NA28, you probably will benefit. And if you looked at New Orleans draft commentary to accompany it, it's quite amazing the information for non-specialists
- NA28 took a new digital direction, encouraging linkage to the actual manuscripts for more detailed review. Granted there's some additional manuscripts included in the apparatus list, which for most folks would be transparent.
If I was immensely broke, I'd save my pennies for CNTTS, if only because I already have NA27 apparatus. But the future of course lies with NA28.
Both CNTTS and NA28 are 'scholarly'; it's simply the presentation, how grouped, and mss inclusion decisions.
