What do you think of the commentary set by

C. R. Erdman published thru Westminster press in PA in the 20s and 30s?

Came across a near full set of first editions recently; only lacking the title on Mathew.

Its Westminster so I presume its reformed. Haven't found much about it on the internet beyond that he was also pre-millenial... Thought maybe some of the smart folks here would know more.

To keep this on topic, is it sold in Logos, if not, was it ever & how much was it?

I notice a number of the singletons of this set are in logos in various of the "classic commentaries and studies on" set. Seem to be valued at about 14$ each in Logos. But for those that have them, what do you think of the guy? I don't know much about Presbyterian history, but he seems to have been pulling certainly princeton, perhaps the denomination away from the standards at the time he was writing.

He was on the opposing side of Machen, but that doesn't necessarily mean he was a sloppy exegete. You'd have to read through one and make up your own mind. My guess is you will get some info of value.

Nice find! Rarely do I see sets, usually just one or two volumes mostly in a series.

Machen was more conservative theologically. Erdman tolerated deviation from the Westminster standards. The disagreement led to Machen and several others leaving Princeton and forming Westminster Theological Seminary. Erdman was therefore a key figure on the road to liberalism within the PCUSA.

Great! I still get excited over print book finds. God is so immensely generous. My favorite find was a very clean third edition BDAG for $1.00! A short time later I sold my second edition for $20, then the third to get it in Logos via supernatural discount!

My mediocre third edition cost me 5x as much. Needless to say I've been scouring their "dictionaries and translations" area for things pertaining to greek and hebrew though have not found anything yet. They only have the sale one weekend a month. I will most definitely go back next month and be there when the doors open. All totaled I've spent 24$ at this place, and have brought home nearly 60 titles... Praising God for his bounty

Good to know, that means I will likely not agree with those things he deviates on (other than perhaps baptism, I am a deviant - according to the standards - on Baptism myself as I more closely identify with the Baptist Confession of 1689).
