iPad Speech to Text
Is this feature available for the iPad/iPhone version of Logs? I just discovered it on my Macbook Air and would like to use it on the iPad.
Thank you.

Graham:
I sent an email too but wanted to have this on the forum. We would like to use Text to Speech feature that is available on the Mac version and wondered if you can do that on the iPad. The Mac version of Logos you can turn on Text to Speech and it will read the passage aloud. Thanks.

Text to Speech
Got it - you meant "Text to Speech" as opposed to "Speech to Text"[:)]
This is currently available for the Lexham English Bible (New Testament) and ESV (whole Bible)

For clarification: "Text to Speech" is generally used to refer to the computerized vocalization of "text to speech." Logos utilizes the windows and mac operating system capabilities to accomplish this in L5. iOS doesn't have this capability in the same way that OS X or windows does... However, there are some users who utilize the "accessibility" features of iOS to accomplish this... If you are not visually impaired, I don't think it would be worth your time to experiment with.
The Lexham and ESV utilize audio book technology synched to your eBook resources to "read aloud" to you (which isn't "text to speech").

The only way to do this currently is to copy and paste text into your notes, then turn on speak from the notes.

There is a way around it on your iPhone or iPad. Using iOS settings not logos software. Here is how:
1. Go to settings: General: Accessibility: Speech:
2. Enable "Speak Screen"
3. Open your logos book and swipe down from the top with two fingers. This will read the book to you. It will actually turn pages and everything.
Hope you guys find it as awesome as I have.

According to this thread http://community.logos.com/forums/p/83846/640293.aspx IOS VoiceOver it is not currently supported on the Logos App.
It seems to work ok, except it intermittently loads the wrong page when page turning. This is not too much of a problem if you are following the text, because if you swipe two fingers again it will resume reading at the correct page. However, I have tried to use it to listen to books while driving and the it can be a problem.
It's much easier to configure VoiceOver to switch on and off by three presses on the home button, then you can easily get in and out of VoiceOver mode. Otherwise, the whole IPad navigation system changes when in VoiceOver and it is difficult get out of it. This is in the General: Accessibility settings somewhere. Then you just open the book to the page you want to start at, triple click home button to switch into VoiceOver and swipe two figures down the page. To get out, triple click the home button again to get out of VoiceOver mode.

That's a good thought David. I used that first and found that the two finger trick was a little easier for me since I can pause it easier. But I don't listen to it while I drive. Great advice for those who listen while they drive though!
