New and updated resources are currently not downloading from our servers. We're working on resolving this ASAP; when it's fixed, you will be able to run "update now" to get them.
Resource downloads should now be working normally.
I can sadly confirm this is true. Was excited about the Atlas and the Psalms Explorer
I upgraded from Logos 5 Portfolio to Logos 6 Portfolio, but my resource count remains the same. I think I'm getting extra resources right? Is this why none have appeared?

You certainly will be getting extra resources. It's likely that they haven't appeared because of this problem.
Everyone, Logos/Faithlife are just helping us exercise the fruit of the spirit, patience! Deep breaths! [:D]
Its a good exercise!
Even the "old" resources in the new bundles are not downloading. What gives?
I think it's a server error with the metadata service, so your install of Logos doesn't know which file versions to download.
What gives?
Must be the server problems Bradley referred to. I don't think the servers distinguish between old and new to you resources.
Resource downloading (either old or new, a distinction which likely varies by individual) all relies on the same servers and networks. We are having some issues with the huge demand brought on by Logos 6 sales. Rest assured, we have some very talented engineers working tirelessly to get this fixed. We appreciate your patience.
To the best of my memory, we had similar issues during L4 or L5 launch, though the L6 launch seem to go better than the previous ones with far better communication. As a joke, don't you people at Faithlife consider these products exciting enough to get people mad and buy enough of them to crash your servers when they are launched? [:)] [ Appreciate, this time the launch coincided with the bulky resource updates [:)] ].

Agreed. This has been much smoother than L4. It took 3 days for me download and update everything that time!
One does have to wonder why they thought it was possible to have a "Mass Resource Update" and a version update on the same day. With as many users Logos now has, the "Massive Update" alone would be a strain on the system.
The issues are separate.
Logos uses Amazon's servers to push resources and data out. They have separate servers for their in-house needs which is what is creating the bottleneck right now. They were confident that Amazon had more than enough bandwidth to handle the massive download overnight. The problem now appears to be with the web site their servers host and (perhaps) with getting info from their servers to Amazon's distribution servers.
I agree that this is rather less that we'd expect on launch day.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) offers Web-Scaling capabilities including a geographically distributed Content Delivery Network (CDN) called CloudFront. Running the Logos websites off AWS Regions and Availability Zones within US should be plain easy and possible. NetFlix operates entirely out of AWS. May be they should look into this next time!
Masochism? No, not really...
While I wasn't a part of the decision about timing, I can tell you that much of the new data inside the rebuilt resources are there to power new Logos 6 features. (I know the blog post touted the "smart selection" feature but that was only because we couldn't talk about the even more exciting Logos 6 features in there!)
For just two examples: (1) the smart selection data (i.e. semantic boundaries for phrase/sentence/paragraph) also powers Inline Search contextualization feature. (2) Bibles got richer tagging to support the improved Bible Text Only visual filter options.
(these are just two, there is more)
Given how Amazon was performing a few hours ago, I would not suspect an Amazon problem but rather the Logos licensing servers. They had done a fair amount of behind the scenes work in preparation but one can never truly replicate launch day in stress tests.

I revisited the blog post again yesterday, knowing (as a beta tester) that Logos 6 was coming within 24 hours, but I wondered whether anyone would have grown suspicious that so many resources needed to be updated for a new relatively minor feature. Why would Logos put everyone through such pain for that? I'm guessing it did make a few people think there was something bigger on the horizon. That plus all of Everett Doonand's bloviating.
Yes that was my guess too. But someone on the forums did a good job with the timeline of Logos' releases to make it feel like that was just conjecture lol.
That being said, does that mean that there are many Logos 5 users now sitting with potentially unwanted data on their disks because they do not have Logos 6? I am not sure I would be fine with that (I bought 6 today.)
The updated resources are fully functional in Logos 5.

That is just it, the people who were not upgrading are adding unnecessary strain to the system. The promise of "smart select" was not to enough to pacify those individuals. They have been complaining about this unwanted download for days now.
Most of the "L6" data is tagging within the resources.. Those not upgrading to L6 will not receive the new datasets but they will receive the updated resources whether or not they have purchased a base pack/crossgrade/ etc. to activate the features using the data. This is no different than before.
Yes that is true. Makes sense when you consider it from the updated resource perspective.
I have noticed many of the new features are not working as they do in the demo videos. I assume this is because not only are new resources not downloading, but data sets as well. Is this the case?
Yes, it looks like some are downloading issues and others are licensing issues. I am sure it will be fixed soon.
My upgrade just started downloading, only 4.45 gigs to go.
Mine is done. Did not have that much to download, given that I am on measly Gold. 1.64 GB or thereabouts.
Mine is downloading as well. 6.30 GB
Resource downloads should be working again now.
Yes, mine are downloading as we speak! Exciting!
I'm not sure if the reference to the resources working in Logos 5 was a typo, or if you meant to say that they work for Logos 6. If I update them now, and then upgrade to version 6 tonight, will I need to redownload them again after install?

All of the resources you download will work in Logos 6. Once you upgrade you will have another, most likely small, download for the new resources and data sets in Logos 6.
Those of us on Gold were precisely in the middle in L5 ... we've been demoted to the bottom half by the Collectors Edition So I guess we are now "measly"[:(] We need to lobby for an added low end product to regain our status[;)] Gold owner of the world unite!!
Gold owner of the world unite!!
I'm in!
Correct. Try typing Update Now in the Command bar then hit Enter. That will probably trigger a dataset or additional resource download. (It did for me at any rate.)
we've been demoted to the bottom half by the Collectors Edition
Oh, no! Gasp! Not the dreaded loss of status!
Actually I am in L5 Platinum. Who knows where I'll be in L6? I can't afford to keep up this status chasing.

Now guys.... [:O]
No - sorry Mark, But this is what happens on EVERY Logos launch day!
It is exactly what one has coem to expect.
...because it has been happening exactly like this for many years now...and yes I always appreciate the very sincere apologies.[:)]
[Apparently the only ones who were able to access any "stuff" this time were the early beta testers?]
And LOVE that massive resource download during that same 24-48 hour period--another stroke of marketing "genius"?
[with Logos since freebie version 1.6 and full Base version 2.0]
.
Does L6 come in Crayola? [:P]
Does L6 come in Crayola?
Don't be silly. It comes in the more environmentally friendly pastel sidewalk chalks.

The same thing happens reliably every year when Google starts selling their annual Google I/O conference tickets, and happens when Apple tries to live stream a product announcement, and many other examples from companies much bigger than Logos. Having lots of users is very hard to test without actually, you know, having lots of users. [:)] It's not always just a problem of "well, buy more servers!", and even if it were, it wouldn't necessarily be a fiscally responsible move to double down on servers to account for one day's traffic.
Correct me if I'm wrong (likely). But doesn't AWS provide failover capacity for things like this?
but the license servers aren't AWS IIRC
But they could be with a simple redirect.
I don't know how they're doing it, but the internet is just numbers. Copy the data to aws, put an .htaccess redirect on your own server =done.
the internet is just numbers
What?! You mean it isn't a series of tubes? Well, blow me away! [:)]
Ok, well technically it's numbers inside of tubes. I'm told it makes a great whooshing sound.
