Media Collections not appearing in L6

I upgraded to L6 Platinum and am loving the new features. One thing I'm not able to find is the Media Collections that are shown as "New to L6" in the comparison charts. For example, "Artifacts [sic] of the British Museum" is one of the items in this list, but I can't find it in my Library, either by searching for it or by filtering my Library for Media Collections. I also can't find any of the other Media Collections listed in this section, although they're all showing as "1 of 1 owned by you" in the listing.

Does anyone know whether they should be showing up somewhere else and I'm looking in the wrong place, or whether they haven't yet been made available for download? It's not a major issue, but I just thought I'd browse through some of the British Museum stuff in a few idle minutes, which turned into an (unsuccessful) half-hour hunt!

I don't have it either.  In fact I don't see any of the L6 media collections in my library:

I have L6 Reformed Silver.  I do have all the L5 media collections in the library.

There is at least one thread regarding this.

It suggested that these are not in a specific "resource" so cannot be opened from the library. In that instance a "search" using eg. "Beitzel" and "image" was suggested, but I do not remember how.

In another thread it was mentioned that some images [esp. maps] remain on the servers in Bellingham and can only be accessed while on-line.

This sounds like an area that will need much more information/guidance/suggestions etc?

I don't seem to have them either, Reformed Portfolio. Is this a mistake, or how can I find them?

I think one of the things with Logos, is that it's too BIG. I have the same upgrade L6 Platinum, and just discovered some of the media in the Library. One of the better is introductions by Morris P. as I watched 3 of the many clips within L6

I did a search on "Artifacts of the British Museum" using "Media" as an option, like basic, Bible, and then next in line is Media. Under Library results I had 43 results, all were pictures found in the Biblical Arch Mag.

Back to finding more discoveries... happy searching.

Weren't some of the media collections internet only features?

Yes.  That's what Steve and Mark were refering to above when they referenced that other thread.

We don't index the new slides from the British Museum under the museum name right now; they're just indexed on their content/Bible passages/etc.

So do a Media Search for Exodus 2, for example, and you'll see

    logos4:VisualCopy;AspectRatio=SixteenByNine;MediaItemId=204611-1536911--

    logos4:VisualCopy;AspectRatio=SixteenByNine;MediaItemId=204497-1537181--

    etc.

Great. Thanks very much everybody. I've managed to find them now, by following the link Mark referenced above, and very impressed to have my request explained further by the CEO! I teach a course where I do quite a bit on Old Testament background, and some of this is going to be great. Also love the deSilva videos that Mark referenced in the other thread.

That is correct. Bietzel is available online only. The collection has somewhere near 10k photographs in it, if I recall correctly.

Yes, some media collections are Internet-only. See the list here: https://community.logos.com/forums/p/93180/647419.aspx#647419.

As I just read this post, my heart just sank! I did not realize that the Atlas is online accessible only! I thought to myself, how could I have missed this important fact, as the Atlas (and maps) was a crucial reason for my upgrading,

So I just went to Logos.com to check out about the Features on the new Logos 6 and specifically looked at what was said about the Atlas. There is not one word that mentions it is available only online!

So basically you are saying that as long as we have internet access, we can access the Atlas. Also as long as Logos' server doesn't have any problems, we will be able to access the Atlas. BUT the launching of Logos 6 has just showed that if the server is over-loaded, then we won't be able to access "all this content" that we just paid a lot of money.

I am VERY disappointed. This should have been spelled out much clearer. It might have affected my decision to upgrade.

The system requirements (displayed prominently on the product page) do say that an internet connection is required for some features. But I do agree that a small indicator next to the "online only" tools would have been helpful.

    Mark,

There was so much thrown at us concerning Logos 6. For those of you who were beta testing, you were already aware of a lot of facts and thus you have had time to work through these issues. I did not know that Logos 6 was being released. Therefore, when I saw it "officially" announced in the forum, I went to the Logos site. There was so much that was written about it. So I immediately click on Logos 6 header, then click on Learn More, and then click on Features. How else am I to learn about it but do this? Thus when I went through all of that, at the top is listed Atlas. And this is what it says:

"Connect Bible stories with their geography. Get scalable maps marked with ancient sites and cities, and zoom in and out to reveal more information."

Sounds great, right? Then I click on Expand to get more information and this is what it says: "

Contextualize Scripture and better understand its stories. The Atlas puts biblical narratives in context with elegant maps. Get dozens of new maps created by a professional cartographer that offer powerful functionality—including zoom options and panning.

Trace Jesus’ journey from baptism to temptation in the wilderness and explore Paul’s missionary map. Browse maps chronologically, from the prepatriarchal period to the early church, and quickly jump back and forth between the Bible reference and the map. Reveal additional cities and narratives by zooming in and out."

THAT is ALL that it says. So yes, maybe "online" is mentioned somewhere else, BUT it was not mentioned here where you are to "learn more" about the feature!

Then I also checked on the very beginning, where you could click on Logos 6 and get an "Overview" = "What is Logos 6?" and it doesn't mention "online only." Instead it says the following:

    Atlas

With Atlas, you can explore biblical narratives in context with powerful maps that zoom in and out and pan

Instead, we are told that we can do "Smarter Searches, Better Results"...that is explained by the following:

Find answers faster with new search tools that give you the most relevant information with the least amount of clicks. Perform comprehensive searches across your library with Everything Search; do original–language searches within individual resources with Inline Search; get instant information on biblical people, places, and concepts with Factbook; and pinpoint relevant, high–quality media with the new Media Search.

    Not one mention of "online."

So, that is why I am upset.

I can understand and Logos certainly doesn't want you to be dissatisfied with your purchase. They have a 30 day return policy.

As it was explained to us the atlas files are massive. Once completed I believe I heard terabits of data, so impossible to have offline. The connected part of Logos will definitely affect some users, esp. those with download limits, unreliable Internet, or travel that means no Internet. I know Logos weighed these factors in deciding to put some content online.

Perhaps they might have offered an offline version only and saved you and others a few dollars.

I agree too. I'll ask the Marketing folks if they can update this information.

Charlene, I think you've seen Bob's post here about why some features required an internet connection, but I'm linking to it here for the sake of others.

The Biblical Places Maps puts the Logos 5 maps in a separate resource to make them easier to find. Those maps are still downloaded to your computer, so they're available offline.

I did, Sean. And I can understand the logic of it, due to Bob's explanation. It is just frustrating that I did not know that AHEAD of time. Communication is the key. I can remember when Logos 4 was unveiled and the uproar that that release caused and a lot of it was due to the lack of communication. Fortunately I was part of the beta team and thus could communicate to others the logic behind certain things and I could help alleviate others' frustration.

Then Logos 5 was released and once again, there was a big uproar and a lot of it was really due to a lack of knowledge concerning the new upgrade. There were major problems in the communication. Many thought that they were losing their resources (I didn't), and they were panicking. As a few days/weeks went by, often times in the explanation there would be something stated to the effect that "we have learned from our mistakes in what we did not communicate" (major paraphrase! [:D])

And yet here we have the next major upgrade and problems are arising, which I believe is once again due to the lack of communication. All right, so the atlas/maps are huge and will take up so much room that many do not have room on their hard drives for it; but in order to make this incredible tool available, we have to do it "online-only" access....I have no problem with that, if it was just stated AHEAD OF TIME! That's all.

I don't have a lot of money to just throw around, when every upgrade is released. I really need to know AHEAD of time, so I can prayerfully consider all the options and then make the decision. Everything needs to be communicated clearly. For those features that are only available "online," then make that clear. Put that by each of those features. I don't have a problem with that, but at least I would know it beforehand. That is why I am frustrated, because of what was written about the features on the Logos website to give understanding to those of us who are ignorant about the new features, that aspect was not stated clearly and I felt like I was blindsided.

So, thank you Sean, for passing it on to the Marketing people. It seems like Logos 6 has a lot of great features. Just be sure that the facts are clearly explained, so that the customers can make wise decisions. Thanks!
