Dr. Runge's Discourse Grammar of GNT links to older edition of Wallace?

I found myself with duplicate copies of Wallace's Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics. I 'hid' the older of the two. I began reading Dr. Runge's work to find that the links to Wallace go to the older edition. Is this easy enough to correct? Or do I have to 'unhide' the previous edition?

Probably the latter.

From prior discussions of this (e.g. involving Moo's "Encountering Romans" or links to the predecessor of BDAG) I understand that Logos has no technical solution to automatically correct such links. They would need to generate a datatype and change the resource links into reference links in all affected resources (thus it would work for both versions). Moreover, in most cases editorial changes between the editions would need to be evaluated, which makes this a non-trivial thing to do.

This is really no different than what they do with a unique datatype for Bible references, so references go to our preferred Bible, which we can change as we wish. Correct? To me it doesn't seem that significant that in designing a course like Romans etc., they introduce a datatype(s) to support the course.

This is definitely an issue Logos needs to address as their product matures. As time goes on more and more on their resources and our notes/clippings are going to be linked to older editions. For now I can live with the solution of just "unhiding" older editions, but in the future it will begin to get problematic, especially as newer users may not be able or desire to purchase old editions. For example I don't think people can even purchase BAG any longer.

It's more like the datatypes for Early Church Fathers, where you might find a certain homily by Origin in one of several editions of his work. For this to work, all these resources need to be tagged on a detailed level. A work citing it would then go to the highest prioritised edition in your library. The issue gets even more complex by the fact that revised editions tend to be revised sometimes, e.g. if Runge cites an example from Wallace page 123 (or chapter 17 or table 6b or...) it may well be that this content is now on page 99 (or chapter 21 or table 7...) or no longer in there at all!

I don't think they should be linking to the newer edition. This would be an inaccurate citation. Newer editions of books are revised, content is added and taken away. If the links just tracked the latest edition, you could end up with dead links.

Yes. This makes sense.

I wonder what the difference is between the two copies I have. They share the same date published. Same ISBN. But different covers.

In this context, the word "edition" is overloaded. They're not newer editions from author / publisher (or many times they're not, anyway) - they're updated versions from Logos, typically much better electronic versions than the earlier ones. Wallace's Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics, cited in this thread, is the best example I'm aware of. The earlier electronic version was aesthetically very difficult, but it's the target of all the references in other Logos resources. The newer version is much nicer and more faithful to the print version, but the links in other resources don't point to it.

A level of indirection in the Logos links would allow the problem to be solved, but I suspect that would be a huge change for Logos.
