About Indexing

Indexing does require a lot of disk space -- at least as much space as your resources require.
If your indexing crashes, it's (likely) either disk space or something we didn't anticipate in one of the LDLS 3.x resources already on your system. Sending the log files will be a big help in identifying these resources. (We don't have an archive of every version of every resource that's been released over the past decade.)

So to clarify, if I have 10GB of resources, the index by itself will be at least 10GB?

Hello Bob, where I can find a log file to send it to you? I have 20 GB free on my disk and it just crashes at the very beginning of the indexing. It doesn't even start indexing and says the program has been stooped by Windows. I have Vista Business Service Pack 2. Thanks for any help.

After Install goes OK, it starts Logos 4, login goes OK, than starts indexing and crashes. Log file says the problem is cookies (see attached)
I use Vista Business SP2, 2 GB memory, NVidia card etc.

I also am having Logos 4 crashing out on indexing. I am running XP SP3, IE8 and have 62.3GB free space on my C Drive. The majority of my resource files are however located on an external drive. I submitted error report to microsoft as suggested, and have attached the logos4 and logos4indexer log files. Other log files were mentioned in the post about log files but no locaiton was given for them and I could not find them. I did try a restart of my computer and noticed on reboot of windows logos icon was in system tray trying to do download an update. It only got a few percentage points through and crashed out of that also.... the download of resources took around 3 hours.1401.Logos4.zip

I am using IE 8. Do I need to delete it and run IE 7 to index properly?

No; Logos 4 works with both IE8 and IE7.

Phil said if you have XP, which I do, that you should use IE7. I didn't know if I this was a suggestion or a requirement with XP.

How can you tell the status of indexing? Install went fine, the program is up and running, I can run passage guide, exegetical guide, etc. Run Search and click Bible and it tells me the library is still being indexed. Set it to All Passages in ESV and tried a few searches and it did not turn up any matches. I am pretty sure the word God appears somewhere in the ESV.
I assume the search issue is an index problem? How can I tell how far along indexing is?

There should be a blue Logos logo icon in your system tray during indexing. Hover over it to see the indexing progress.

It will probably also be helpful to note that if you get Windows complaining that the indexer isn't responding, you might as well kill the indexer straight away.
I left it running on my dual-core because I noticed the number to do was still dropping. Unfortunately when it got to one, it stayed there (makes sense, one thread must have been doing all the work and the other which stopped had claimed that last book). On restart, it looks like all of the books are being done all over again. Hard lesson timewise, but perhaps I can stop others from experiencing it too.

Indexing hanging around 1913 rosourses. Will not move. Started out with about 1940 or so.

Finally moved to 1911. Why does it take so long for some files, while the software breezes through others?

My indexing did not crash the system. I know I have more than plenty of disk space--50+GB. I left my computer on all night thinking it would finish by this morning. For some reason, the indexing process started all over again. What makes it worse is it is causing my cable Internet to run at dial-up speed.
Any thoughts?

You likely exceeding your daily limit for download. It is likely to return to full speed today or tomorrow.

Ok, just for fun I tried the download version on both a laptop (Dual Core 3gigs of Ram Windows 7 RC) and an old desktop (Pentium 4 2.4 ghz with only 512mb Ram and a small 111 gig HDD)
The download worked fine on the Windows 7 machine and froze on the XP Machine.
The indexer will not work on the Windows 7 machine but worked on the XP machine. (Though it did take all night to finish indexing with only 300+ resources)
I am going to try another clean install on the Windows 7 machine today.

Andrew,
We want to collect some more detailed information from your system. Please place the attached "Logos4Indexer.NLog.config" file in your "My Documents\Libronix Log Files" folder (the same folder where the Logos4Indexer.log file is currently located). Re-run the program, then post your Logos4Indexer.log file for diagnosis.

Bradley,
I cannot find a button or option that allows an attachment for a file; so how does one post a log file to a message? Thanks.

When you are writing a post, click on the Options button. You should see this:
Is it not there for you?

It is not there for me. I've tried both IE 8 and the latest Firefox to no avail....
I tried the uninstall and reinstall on my Win 7 machine and wound up with the indexer crashing again, I'll post the log files as soon as the add attachment button is available.

Phil,
Thanks and it is not there for me either. Nor is it there when I go to the General forum.

I'm currently at 51%, and downloaded the 600+ MB plus the 4.0 original language resources update (all in all over 1 GB). I have not encountered any problems yet, but the whole process has been going on for over 8 hours. Hopefully indexing will be a one-off thing, right?

I noticed in one of the original requirement post the need for xmlLite.dll... Is this just for XP or all OS? I'm running Windows 7 RC and did a search for xmlLite.dll and it is not on my system, could this cause the indexer to crash?
I also checked Microsoft's website for this file, but the only one available for download is for XP and it would not install on Win 7 RC. They mention xmlLite.dll as part of a test update from May 2009, but have no download link for it...

Hello Bradley,
Here is mine log file, if you need one.
My indexer just do not even start, it just crashes and this way I can see the interface of the Logos 4 only after fresh install. Afterwards it crashes - because of the Indexer, I suppose.

Pieter and other Win 7 users,
Be sure you check the Show Hidden Icons link (the little up arrow) in the Win 7 system tray. That's where the Logos tray icon was for me. I didn't even think to look for a system tray icon until Bob mentioned it.

O, I thought we will have a fix for the Indexer soon. Can't wait for being able to play with the program. Is there any progress on that? Thanks Phil.

Just downloaded the Original Language update and it seems that indexing is taking place again ... is the whole library reindexed when a new resource is added? I'm pretty sure I didn't add 580 new resources!

Frank and Joan - try uploading those log files one more time if you would. I think you both should be able to upload attachments now.

I did not have it either. I found how to activate it though. Go to the top of the page in forums bside your name. You should see the "edit" link. Click that link and you have the otion to edit your profile or the site options. Choose site options and change content option from "standard" to "enhanced." Click save at the bottom of the page. You should be able to see the add/update link in the options tab when you compose or reply to a post. Hope this helps.

You do not need to install XmlLite.dll if you are running Windows 7 (or Vista, or XP SP3).

Well, mine finished indexing after 7 hours only to begin all over again. It never crashes it just starts over. I am running Windows XP. What it does do is seriously slow down my computer.

I actually just looked at the log myself, is this an issue with timelines and other xml files? I just removed all the xml files from the resource directory and LogosIndexer is running with no apparent problems!

Yes, that was the problem; glad to hear it's all working now.
